Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking journalists with strong news analytics skills for the expansion of a team dedicated to providing the newsroom with meaningful, data-based insights and training. Understanding audience behavior, trends and desires and translating them into actionable strategies that can be implemented across all The Post’s newsroom teams will be integral to our goal of expanding readership domestically and internationally.

Editors on this team will be responsible for parsing audience data and establishing insightful takeaways that editors across the newsroom can use to better understand the needs of readers, viewers and listeners as we continue to push The Post’s world-class journalism into multiple formats for a variety of audiences.

Ideal candidates for this position will have a passion for understanding audience behavior, the latest trends and experiments in the industry, and helping others to learn how to focus and craft strategies for specific audience segments. They’ll be thoughtful about the large and small strategies that can be implemented to improve our audience’s experience of our report while deepening trust and connectivity.

Strong candidates will have a minimum of five years of newsroom experience particularly in the area of audience analytics and engagement. Experience with an enterprise web analytics system like Google Analytics, familiarity with data analysis using Python and experience using SQL to manipulate data from various data sources will help the candidate succeed in this role. Experience in Tableau or other visualization/reporting tools is a plus. This role reports to the director of analytics, insights & trainings.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
