THE ROLE

 

We are looking for an Applications or Sr. Applications Engineer to join our Commercial Operations team.

 

Develop and prepare technical solutions and commercial proposals for upgrading or repairing existing equipment to meet or exceed customer requirements. Provide technical and commercial support for the promotion of the business including sales or strategic initiatives and negotiations of contract terms and conditions. Interface with engineering and operational groups in the development of proposals. Equipment responsibilities will include API 613 special purpose steam turbines along with refinery FCC expanders, axial compressors, power turbines and nitric acid expanders.  Occasional domestic or international travel may be required.

Performance Expectations  

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Aftermarket Sales and Service - Quotation activities, market and competitive information.
  • Repair facilities and manufacturing - repair techniques, cost evaluation.
  • Engineering - Technical support, problem solving, equipment upgrades, performance calculations, applications, auxiliaries and controls.
  • Commercial contracts experience.

 

 

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Review and interpret customer specifications and requirements
  • Develop solutions with Product Engineers and Sales Managers.
  • Develop, prepare and write technical proposals, to include: clear technical solutions, turbine reselection and performance improvements, cost estimation, deviations to client specifications etc., all according to company processes and procedures
  • Use knowledge of various markets, applications and best solution to offer
  • Be knowledge of API 611 and 612 specifications for Steam Turbines, along with driven equipment and related auxiliaries such as API 613, 614, 617, 619, 670, 671 etc.
  • Ensure the technical aspects of a proposal are complete and compliant with the customer’s requirements and present our solutions in the most competitive way
  • Combine all items above to develop cohesive winning strategies that involves commercial and technical solutions against competition. 
  • Participate from a technical/commercial perspective in Customer presentations, clarification meetings, and negotiations.
  • Review and resolve any customer order discrepancies.
  • Enter customer orders into system and insure project turnover to the execution team. 
  • Support and drive productivity / process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary team such as Engineering, Project Management, Supply chain and external vendors to ensure timely flow of information

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferably 2 years’ experience or more in rotating equipment (expanders or steam turbines preferred) or equivalent experience in similar industry. 
  • Understanding of thermodynamic and aerodynamic concepts as related to the performance of turbomachinery including heat transfer, gas properties, efficiency, head, work, etc. 
  • Application and design knowledge of steam turbines or expanders as well as their related auxiliaries (i.e.: motors, gears, lube systems, etc.) 
  • Ability to understand and balance internal cost structure, market value, and margin goals when pricing a project. 
  • Commercial experience including marketing, pricing and contract terms and conditions. 
  • International experience is a plus

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • Graduate with four (4) year engineering or equivalent.   
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This is a full-time position working out of our Houston, TX or Bethlehem, PA or Appleton, WI USA facilities.
  • Travel is projected to be up to 15%.
  • This is full-time position requires a minimum of 40 working hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required based on company needs.
  • Capable of completing customer scope of work requirements. 
  • Able to understand, read, write, and speak English. 
  • US Citizen / Permanent Resident of the United States with a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to legally work in the USA and provide proper documentation.
