Automation Technician

We are accepting applications to fill an Automation Technician position. You will support the electrical/controls infrastructure of the facility and report to the Senior Packaging Engineer. You will respond to abnormal conditions and develop approaches to maintain high reliability within operations, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies. Below is a list of essential job functions including the following:

  • Perform annual NFPA 70E plant inspection and electrical safety program audit.

  • Manage all required documentation (i.e. hazard location documents, electrical master PM list)

  • Work with Maintenance Planner to schedule and perform automation preventative maintenance and calibrations.

  • Coordinate and assist with control system start-up and commissioning.

  • Work with plant personnel to track and determine top causes of downtime, reduce downtime and use EM tools.

  • Ensure critical facility electrical systems and programming problems are identified and repaired expeditiously.

  • Monitor electrical systems and associated electrical apparatus used in the plant including: Transformers, Switchgear, Panels/Breakers/disconnects, UPS systems, PLC's, Power monitoring systems, and Instrumentation.

  • Create and read ladder logic and flow diagrams for program design, startup, simulation and testing.

  • Design, coordinate, troubleshoot, and support the following while maintaining plant automation standards: Programmable logic controllers (PLC's), Human Machine Interface (HMI) / SCADA systems, Communications, Databases (i.e. SQL server)

  • Develop process control flow diagrams.

  • Develop instrumentation diagrams and process control diagrams (P& ID's). Red line drawings when changes are made with proper MOC.

  • Specify and support motors, motor starters, VFD's and servos throughout the plant.

  • Develop technical documentation, training manuals, standard operating procedures and job safety analysis.

Qualifications:

2 year degree in Industrial Controls or Electrical related field

All experience levels are welcomed

Knowledge/prior experience (assist with) NFPA 70AE

You will work a 12.5 hour shift on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule.
