Parsons is now hiring Systems Engineers with a passion for innovation and solving mission critical challenges. In this role you’ll conduct research into IT system capabilities and means of meeting customer requirements. We’re looking for systems engineer/administrators who identify, design, secure, test, deploy, and document solutions for network and telecommunications problems.

Position Overview

Participates in design and implementation of infrastructure solutions through the entire lifecycle (Design, Procurement, Integration, Support). Monitors and measures activity and performance of a systems. Collects and interprets syslog and security log data and implements actions to remedy any findings. Works with the cyber team on Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts and system hardening to support key program security milestones. Develops programs/scripts automation to provision systems, increase efficiency and to provide consistency of deployments. Utilize your technical knowledge to work within a multitude of disciplines, to include virtualization (Cloud, VMWare, Kubernetes), storage (Block, File, Object), and networking. Performs rack installation, cabling design/installation of network, compute, and storage devices. Support existing Security Information and Event Manager (SIEM) toolsets. Provide Tier 2 system administration expertise to support operations. Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Position Responsibilities

Primary job roles will include working with a team of engineers within an Agile environment to design, implement, and supporting system automation, monitoring, and virtualization efforts. Day to day efforts will include system administration of VMWare & Linux environment, participating in automation design, implementation of designs, supporting Tier 1 staff escalations, adhering to system configuration control mechanisms, documentation, implementation, and Tier 2 maintenance of the automation and monitoring tools. The program vision is to serve as a research and development incubator for new and innovative remote sensing algorithms, user interfaces, and data analytics to serve the objective to exploit OPIR data from the legacy systems to produce actionable information in support of the battlespace awareness/technical intelligence (BA/TI) mission as well as other emerging mission areas (e.g. civil and environmental).

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Must have a minimum DoD Secret security clearance with the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline
  • Real world experience and proficiency with automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
  • 4 plus years of experience in a systems administration or network role with a record of steadily increasing responsibilities
  • Real world experience and proficiency with SEIM solutions (Elastic Stack, SolarWinds, Sensu, Nagios, Splunk)
  • Experience with management of virtualization, cloud, and container technology (VMware workstation/vSphere/vCenter/ESXi, AWS EC2/S3/Glacier, Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform as a self-starter and closer when provided with project requirements and deadlines under minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with Ruby, Python, and YAML
  • Proficiency with Windows and RHEL administration (Windows 7/10/Server 2016, RHEL 6/7)
  • Proficiency with VMware vSphere/ESXi 6
  • Experience with shell scripting languages (e.g., BASH)
  • Familiarity with network administration of routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Must be able to work in a production/operational environment
  • Experience with Ruby, Python, and YAML
  • Experience with developing and automating deployments in a virtualization, cloud and container technology (VMware workstation/vSphere/vCenter/ESXi, AWS EC2/S3/Glacier, Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift) environment
  • Experience with shell scripting languages (e.g., BASH)
  • Must be able to work in a production/operational environment
  • Experience with Rack, stack, hardware design, and cabling of network, compute, and storage devices
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence

Required Certifications

  • Security+ Certification or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hiring

Desired Certifications

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Certification within the VMware discipline
  • Certification within the AWS discipline

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and typically 7+ years of related professional experience. An advanced degree may be preferred at this level.

Salary Range:
