Job Description:

As Barry-Wehmiller continues to grow, a key priority remains educating and aligning our stakeholders around the globe through clear, consistent and culturally-relevant communication. We are looking for a Communications Specialist with excellent writing/content development and collaboration skills to support our growing messaging needs.

The Communications Specialist will be a key member of Barry-Wehmiller’s Corporate Communications Team, a small but talented group of creatives responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies, supporting the Marketing and People teams with their go-to-market and people development needs, and leading a variety of intercompany initiatives aligned to branding, communications, team member engagement and company culture.

The types of content you may develop and implement includes -- but is not limited to – internal communication collateral, press releases, newsletters, email blasts, announcements, social posts, and website and intranet site content. Additionally, you may be responsible for virtual event and meeting coordination and facilitation.

The Communications Specialist must have the ability to work in a complex environment with multi-dimensional points of view, and be self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized. You should be able to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.

Above all, you must enjoy writing and possess the writing chops to clearly and cleverly communicate ideas and initiatives.

Based in our corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO (USA), this position may require occasional travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver content for a variety of purposes, including organizational announcements and program launches, press releases, websites, digital signage, intranet, newsletters, social media, and other sources as appropriate.
  • Strategize with business partners on current programs and new initiatives, identifying innovative approaches to support team member understanding of organizational priorities, values and key initiatives
  • Develop content for and administration communications channels, including digital channels and on-site facility communications
  • Follow an internal communications calendar to coordinate timing, volume and channels used for internal messaging

Qualifications/skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, strategic marketing or other relevant field of study from an accredited university
  • 1-3 years experience in communications role or similar capacity
  • Superior writing skills, with proven ability to create engaging content in a timely manner
  • Familiarity with social media
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in laymen’s language to multiple stakeholder groups
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently, develop project plans and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with sound critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Adobe products desired
  • Familiarity with AP style
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with an excellent customer service orientation
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with business partners
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy that every day is different, and possesses the ability to pivot quickly

Submission of writing samples/portfolio is required. An onsite writing test will be administered.
