About this role:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Compliance Engineer to join our Kidde Business Unit in the Raleigh-Durham NC area. The successful candidate will oversee the compliance of all residential and commercial fire suppression products with regards to listing/certification agencies, recognized industry standards, and government laws and regulations. The duties include working with company management, product design and manufacturing groups, as well as various certification, testing and regulatory agencies to achieve and maintain product safety certifications and assure compliance with applicable industry and governmental standards. While reporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager, the successful candidate must be proactive, organized, systematic, and capable of sustained and independent work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and applies all applicable product standards and regulations including various Underwriters Laboratories Standards for Safety, National Fire Protection Association standards and various Federal regulations.
  • Works with Compliance Agencies and the business to obtain certifications for new products.
  • Works with Compliance Agencies and the business to maintain certifications for product undergoing design or material changes.
  • Serves as principal liaison between certification agencies and the business.
  • Fully understands certification-mandated product construction and performance requirements and advises product design teams to achieve compliance.
  • Understands all agency certification testing procedures, occasionally supports the completion of in-house rehearsal testing and verifies all product testing has compliant results before submission of the product to certification agencies.
  • Serves as principal contact for communications between Product Engineering and regulatory agencies.
  • Assists Manufacturing and component vendors with agency follow-up inspection issues.
  • Supports Marketing, Sales and Customer Service on matters concerning agency and regulatory compliance.
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment & follows all safety procedures.


  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience working with compliance agencies.
  • 5+ years of experience in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, & OneNote.
  • 5+ years with 3D CAD Modeling software experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with ERP systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with programming and data automation.
  • B.S. in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • Up to 25% Travel
