Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Confined Space Monitor to join the team in Renton, WA and Everett, WA.

Position Responsibilities:

Employees in this position operate Communications System for Confined Hazardous Areas (CSCHA) monitoring equipment. They provide a means that checks on the safety of personnel working in hazardous confined spaces in aircraft structures, through the use of a radio communication system and perform surveillance of confined areas where safety procedures require a confined space radio or attendant system including verification of proper grounding, ventilation and confined space entry permit procedures. Also perform Air Monitoring of all confined space locations.


Additional Tasks Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure CSCHA computer and radio monitoring equipment (e.g., monitored station, satellite location) is working properly.

Check system for proper operation, (e.g., alarm, day/date, check printer paper) and log into system, as required.


Perform visual inspection of radios at beginning of shift (e.g., cracked cases, broken antennas) and install fresh batteries, recharging depleted ones, as required.

Monitor and/or issue radios and confined space flag to customers (e.g., sealers, inspectors, mechanics, engineers) in a customer-oriented fashion and help resolve alarms and radio operation problems, as required.


Ensure proper operation of radio being issued, through observation of self-check cycle (e.g., flashing red light, then flashing green light, audible beeps), as required.

Assist customers in logging into CSCHA system, using bar-code scanner and appropriate bar codes (e.g., BEMSID, badge, confined space work location), as required.


Assist customers in filling out required spaces on Confined Space Radio Check out log (e.g., name, chemical used, time in/out), as required.

Monitors CSCHA system for investigation of alarms, (e.g., exceeding polling response cycle, help alarm, false alarms).

Respond to system alarms by going to confined space and searching at or around location, calling for person, if no answer, direct console monitor to dispatch emergency response personnel and remain in area to render assistance, as required.


Maintain radio contact with CSCHA monitor or back up/runner, when not at CSCHA station (e.g., daily audits, alarm response), as required.

Perform visual factory audits each shift, checking all confined space areas for compliance (e.g., person in stated confined space, no unauthorized workers, proper flags, missing access permit) per company procedures BPI-1713 and/or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) E-1325/35, as required.
Document noted non-compliance of BPI-1713 procedures and/or SOP E-1325/35 (e.g., no radio, no ventilation, not logged into CSCHA), using appropriate forms (e.g., Notice of Revocation of Confined Space Entry Authorization, Area Survey), as required.

Monitoring Air Quality daily with 100% of the confined spaces tested for pre-entry monitoring and conduct targeted sampling in confined spaces on each audit.


Monitor to ensure Renton/Everett Confined Space Entry permits and logs are available and properly used for non-radio entry- Aircraft Confined Space Attendants Log of Entrants (e.g., date/time of entry/exit, area entered, person's name) and that outside attendant is at designated confined space entry, as required.


Perform minor maintenance on radios (e.g., tighten screws, remove/replace belt clips, check contacts), as required.

Prepare reports by collecting data from various sources (e.g., Area Survey, Attendant Logs, Notice of Revocation of Confined Space Entry Authorization) and submit to required personnel (e.g. Team Leader, supervisors, (SHEA) Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs), as required. Issue Evacuation Alert of all confined spaces due to emergencies (e.g., earthquake, fire), by activation of the ""All Alert"" or Global Evacuation button, as required.

Current Boeing employees working in Puget Sound and Portland must submit an Employee Request Transfer (ERT) to be considered in the eligible candidate pool. High school graduate or GED preferred.
