Construction Manager

Ducks Unlimited in Dexter, MI has an opening for a full-time Construction Manager. This candidate will be a self-motivated, experienced construction manager or civil engineering technician. The position will report to Warren Weirich, Manager of Conservation Services. 

 

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., is the continent’s leader in waterfowl and wetlands conservation. DU has conserved more than 15 million acres across the continent and employs over 600 employees nation-wide.

 

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects.

  1. Coordinate with design engineers on project related tasks
  2. Perform topographic surveys using total station and GPS survey equipment
  3. Provide AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting support. Applicants should be familiar with:
    1. Preparation of topographic survey drawings
    2. Land development plans
    3. Preparation of detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches and/or other drawings, including integration of data from a variety of sources (e.g., LiDAR, GPS, total-station, laser level)
    4. Construction/staking plans
    5. Cross-sections, alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, earthwork and grading tools, and quantity calculation methods
    6. Preparation of as-built/record drawings
    7. Assist with drafting details needed for permit applications
  4. Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.  Field work includes strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.  Must be able to operate and haul ATV and outboard boat when necessary.  
  5. Travel overnight required, since primary responsibilities will be in Michigan and Ohio. 
  6. Work may extend outside normal business hours. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
  7. Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  8. Represent DU with local, state, and federal personnel, and private landowners, along with other mitigation and conservation partners in a professional manner at all times. 


Qualifications:

Experience and Education 

  • Earned a two-year technical degree in a related field 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry – Preferred

 

Technological Proficiencies: 

  • Candidates must have experience with Civil3D, land surveying, and construction inspection.  
  • Show experience using and proficiency with Microsoft suite, including Excel, Word and Power Point

 

Analytical Skills 

  • Manage projects and processes
  • Implement and continuously improve 
  • Remain current on AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting, GPS survey equipment, and topographic surveys

 

Interpersonal Skills

  • Be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.
  • Organize and lead people, including consultants and contractors
  • Collaboratively work with and guide local, state, and federal personnel, and private landowners, along with other mitigation and conservation partners 
  • Share knowledge and teach to serve as a regional SME (Subject-Matter Expert) on building and engineering support of ecosystems
  • Show a willingness to learn 

 

Communication Skills 

  • Demonstrate essential oral, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Engage a variety of stakeholders
