Construction Manager – Village

The Construction Manager– Village reports to the Project Manager – NPI/Village and is both accountable and responsible for oversight of the construction execution. The Construction Manager is Albemarle’s responsible person for site related construction activities and at all times, must undertake the role in the best interests of Albemarle and its corporate charter and corporate procedures.
The Construction Manager– Village must develop relationships with the Albemarle project team, employees, corporate, resources, third party contractors, external parties, and the local community to allow the Albemarle Village to be delivered in line with safety, cost and time expectations.
Ensure adherence to Albemarle and Australian safety standards throughout Project execution by all personnel and contractors who are involved with the project execution
Take an active role in developing a culture of SAFETY and respect across the project
Ensure project industrial relations with all contractors, third party contributors, including utility providers, regulatory agencies, consultants, and the local community are being adequately addressed
Consult first and then serve as the final arbiter of Project construction issues
Input to Project Delivery Manager regarding construction strategy
Serve as the primary Albemarle interface during construction with the Head Contractor and personnel both on and off site.
Manage the interface between the Head Contractor and Village Operator before and during handover of central facilities and accommodation rooms
Chair meetings related to the Project schedule and provide recommendations as to changes or improvements required to achieve project milestones.
Monitor construction resources and report variances in the programed resources available to accomplish timely completion of Project Milestones
Review all construction related costs and provide input in the Package Cost Forecast and make recommendations to mitigate overruns or identify cost savings
Serve as the primary interface between the Head Contractor and Albemarle’s service providers and suppliers
Review and approve Construction Change Orders in accordance with the delegation of authority
Sign off on behalf of the project team for Custody Transfer from Construction to Village Operator
Ensure that Corporate Construction Management Principles, Technical Policies and Standards, relevant directives and lessons learned are being considered throughout the Village construction.
Work collaboratively with both the Albemarle project team and the Head Contractor project team
Champion the Management of Change process and close out during construction
Monitor construction quality to ensure compliance with construction drawings, specifications and scope of work
Monitor, control, and report on construction execution
Participate in Value Engineering, safety in design and Constructability Reviews
Provide Construction input to the Monthly Status Report, as appropriate
Review Project and procurement schedules to ensure that field deliverables support the construction schedule
Ensure that Construction Milestones are met
Review completeness and accuracy, approve or endorse deliverables per Document Distribution and Approval Matrix
Facilitate the resolution of conflicts between Head Contractor and the Village Operator concerning construction activities
Ensure that all field testing of new or revised installations is adequate and in conformance with Albemarle’s quality requirements
Coordinate with Head Contractor to resolve design conflicts
Assist with development of procedures for Completion of Construction
Ensure preparation of and adherence to the Construction Execution Plan
Ensure that all field construction documentation is complete, accurate, and meets the end user requirements
Assist with preparation of the Project Close Out Report, including Lessons Learned

Education / Qualification Requirements
Relevant qualifications in Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or other related discipline or building Trade are desirable
Minimum of 10 years’ construction management experience (or similar role) with commercial, industrial, mining or built form projects
Must be able to travel as needed to support project activities
Must be able to operate within a dynamic and diverse environment and has a ‘hands on’ approach
Experience with contracting methodologies, contract documents, contract management processes ideally within a multi-discipline construction environment
Ability to prepare, issue and assess Dayworks and Site Instructions
Ability to manage variations, assess extension of time and other claims
Experience with undertaking risk reviews and being able to identify risk
Sound knowledge of project sequencing and deliverables required during the planning, design and construction phases of a project
Robust management of project cost / budgets
Strong planning and scheduling skills (Microsoft Project / Primavera P6)
