The Controls Engineer Intern will provide support for the Connected Solutions team. Activities can include the design, validation, and maintenance of both hardware and software components for mobile construction vehicle control systems and related IoT systems. Someone in this role will work on a variety of projects and initiatives ranging from simple tasks to more complex analytical projects, and work can vary from independent tasks to collaborations with other interns and senior team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other responsibilities may be assigned.
Assist Controls Engineers in the design and integration of IoT Systems into mobile construction vehicle control/embedded systems and CAN based data collection.
Define and document control system designs, requirements, test plans and results.
Evaluate embedded software, hardware, and electrical components for quality, reliability, manufacturability, and compatibility of control system designs.
Design complex test fixtures for validation of the integration of hardware and software.
Analyze user-requirements to create functional tools and/or add useful features to existing tools.
Assist in data collection entry, definition, and validation.
Operate mobile construction vehicles to understand, design, and test use cases for control systems.
Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to find solutions to problems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Controls, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other Engineering related field.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of various degrees of information.
3.0 GPA or higher.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with Controller Area Network (CAN) and the J1939 protocol.
Experience with Python or similar programming language.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with various web-based software applications including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
Understanding of Agile Development and experience with repository tools.
Detail oriented and quality focused.
Ability to work independently and with a team while prioritizing workload.
Flexible and adaptable to working under tight deadlines and/or changing needs.
