Design Engineer
Summary:
Civil/Structural Engineer - Transmission and Substation Steel Structures
Grid Structures, a division of Southland Steel Fabricators and located in Amite City, LA, manufactures steel poles and structures for the Electric Utility Industry for Substation and Transmission Applications.
Grid Structure is searching for qualified candidates to fill the position of Design Engineer.
The Design Engineer will be responsible for structural analysis and design of steel structures (Products) to be manufactured by Grid Structures, including Transmission Poles, Substation Deadend Structures, Substation Static Poles, and Substation Equipment Support Structures.
KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, but are not limited to:
- Interpretation of customer specifications, design criteria and drawings.
- Production of Product designs for quotation and project phases.
- Application of industry codes and governance regarding design of Products.
- Coordination with drafting and detailing for the conversion of design information into drawings.
- Communications with customers to gain clarifications and technical decisions where necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee occasionally is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds. Employee may rarely be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and a variety of extreme conditions at job sites in outside weather conditions. (when visiting job sites) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
CIVIL or STRUCTURAL Engineers
Qualified candidates should, at a minimum, possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, preferably with a PE certification.
- 2 or more years of relevant experience in steel design and manufacturing, preferably in the Electric Utility Steel Pole Industry.
- An understanding of steel fabrication, welding procedures, connection design, and quality assurance in regard to the Products
- A working competency using PLS Pole design software.
- A working competency using AutoCAD or other drafting software's
- Organizational and time management skills to ensure project schedules are maintained.
