Dynamics Analyst

Lockheed Martin

Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description
Come join Lockheed Martin’s Special Programs (SP) Remote Sensing (RS) Structural Dynamics Team! Through rigorous modeling/analysis/test practices, you will leave key imprints on our critical national security products through all phases of their development. You will influence design trades, track implementation evolution, adjudicate performance adequacy of the end-product; all of which will result in spacecrafts that can sail through the trying environments endured through their life cycle while protecting their precious cargo and missions that keep us safe.

We are seeking a unique individual with the passion and drive for solving complex structural dynamics problems in the aerospace industry. This individual wants to build upon her/his working knowledge of common aerospace practices in mechanical design, modeling, and static/stress analysis. For the right candidate who is committed to becoming an expert in this rarified field, we will train you on the job, expand your skills to tackle the vast scope of environments our products encounter, challenge you to solve complex technical problems involving coupled components and conflicting conditions with creative solutions based on fundamental principles of mechanics, physics, and statistics. You will be mentored by a team of experts not only in Dynamics, but also in adjacent disciplines. These talented, collaborative, and dedicated individuals on the SP-RS team will show you how we perform miracles everyday to make our product a reality, to keep our country safe. We are looking to invest in the career of someone like us: a mission-focused, motivated individual with the skills, intelligence, attitude, and perseverance to innovate our products and our development methodology into the future.

Come see what SP-RS is all about.

As a Dynamics Analyst, your responsibilities will include:
- Perform structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware.
- Produce and maintain models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes, that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions.
- Perform loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination and component and system level testing and data evaluation.
- Document analysis in formal reports that are clear, adequately detailed, and timely.
- Define and integrate Dynamics requirements into the system baseline.
- Prepare test plans/requirements for: static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock tests. Analyze and document the results in post-test reports.
- Present analysis and test results at program reviews such as Technical Interchange Meetings, Engineering Review Boards, Test Readiness Reviews, and Design Reviews.
- Provide rapid analysis results to support trade studies and rapid prototype development
- Mentor junior engineers and cross train other engineering fields.
Basic Qualifications
• Advanced knowledge and/or experience with static and structural analysis
• Experience with finite element modeling using NX or equivalent
• Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation
• Active Top Secret clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired skills
• A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering/Structural Mechanics program or equivalent from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of missile and/or spacecraft structures, statics, strength of materials, structural dynamics principles, and methods.
• Experience evaluating designs using rigid body or flexible body analysis methods and tools
• Experience with Nastran, Abaqus, ADAMS, LS-Dyna, Matlab, Mathcad and/or CREO
• Proficiency with modern substructure modeling and assembly technology and component mode synthesis methods such as Craig-Bampton substructuring.
• Proficiency with composite and metallic structures and associated structural analysis.
• Experience in the planning and execution of static, vibration, acoustic, modal, and/or shock tests for aerospace flight hardware
• Strong desire to learn on the job and train to be a structural dynamics specialist
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g. systems engineering, aerodynamics/stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment
