Job Summary

The Engineering Intern is responsible for working on various manufacturing engineering assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers. Observes and /or performs hands on work based on mentor’s comfort level of intern’s comprehension of safety, quality, and demonstrated good work ethics to perform tasks.  


Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Engineering Intern consist of but are not limited to:

  • Actively assists/participates in projects
  • Provides assistance to departmental teams across the company, working closely with Engineers 
  • Assist with assembly, inspection, blasting, finishing and machining operations (which may include production work)
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports.
  • Assists Engineering team with part modeling and running 3D printer.  
  • Observes/participates in meetings on the development of machining processes 
  • Observes and may participate in customer and vendor interaction
  • Assist in the design of manufacturing processes
  • Assists in design/designs fixturing to facilitate machining, inspection, finishing and/or assembly operations
  • Assist in the collaboration with engineering to modify processes by which products/deliverables are manufactured or assembled 
  • Troubleshoot problems with production and engineering; assists in taking corrective action where needed
  • Troubleshoots and maintains operational software
  • Works with data collection software; data entry and updating of information
  • Observes/analyzes and makes recommendations regarding proposed designs to assure that products can be produced in conformance with specifications and customer requirements
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of safety within the organization. Identify opportunities for improvement and take action if appropriate, before a problem occurs. Report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, and injuries immediately 
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Requirements – High school diploma or equivalent
  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related Science and Technical degrees (entering junior or senior year preferred)
  • In good academic standing (2.50+ GPA)
  • Previous coop/intern engineering assignments a plus
  • Drafting & CAD (CREO or SolidWorks) modeling experience preferred
  • Experience with g-code programming a plus
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of inspection equipment (metrology) a plus

  • Ability to research as required to make sound engineering/business decisions

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer throughout the entirety of the shift
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Must be able to make coordinated motions with hands/fingers to operate office equipment including but not limited to computer, copy machines, and scanners
