Overview

Come make history integrating electric propulsion into the Navy’s new COLUMBIA submarine class!  The integrated power system (IPS) concept fully brings together propulsion and electrical power distribution systems. The IPS Systems design and engineering team is looking for motivated engineers to develop, integrate, and finish documenting the COLUMBIA’s propulsion plant design.  This challenging position is expected to rapidy become familiar with IPS products and capabilities and to immediately begin positively influencing junior IPS engineers.  The position will be responsible to:

-Integrate complex electric propulsion motor, motor drive, and control system technologies with traditional submarine systems.

- Assemble and build consensus with Engineering, Design, Construction, and Planning teams to solve complex issues.

-Develop and document system designs through 2D and 3D diagrams, models, and work documents.

-Develop electrical system descriptions, operating procedures, and acceptance testing documents for use by naval operators and shipyard testing programs.

-Provide technical and professional mentorship to junior engineers unfamiliar with Electric Boat and engineering processes.

This position will interface frequently with Navy and Naval Nuclear Laboratory external stakeholders.  The successful candidate will be able to cultivate positive relationships with these organizations.  Occasional travel is required.

Qualifications
  • Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering
    • 10-14 years of engineering experience 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to secure a DOD secret security clearance
    • Familiarity with the Integrated Power Systems or IPS Compatibility Test Facility systems, products, and management structure

    Preferred:

    • Specialization in power generation, power electronics, or control systems
    • Previous experience with electrical design document development
    • Understanding of naval propulsion systems and their operation
