The Role
As the Engineering Technician III you’ll be working as part of a team doing work Supporting and contributing to new product development and sustaining engineering of company products in a laboratory setting. Examples of tasks such as, optical/laser assembly, test, technical assistance, calibration, electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, and problem solving. This position is instrumental in providing feedback to our Research & Development teams and sustaining product lines as they transition new product developments from Prototype phase to full on production.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Strong knowledge of lasers, optical alignment, and opto-electronics.

  • Build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify prototype/developmental and production electronic and optical systems independently or under the direction of an electrical or optical engineers.

  • Performing board level electronics repair and troubleshooting surface mount component replacement.

  • Assisting engineers and scientists as they create, modify, and test products/processes.

  • Performing electrical, mechanical, and optical assembly of company products and protypes.

  • Performing unit assembly tests, calibrations and conduct failure analysis of electro-optic systems ensuring that quality standards are met.

  • Hands-on experience utilizing electro-optical/metrology laboratory equipment (e.g., LDM cameras, beam profilers, spectrophotometers, power meters, oscilloscopes, wave meters, digital multimeters)

  • Candidates should be familiar with safe operation of laser systems and exercise a strong appreciation for the importance of laser safety.

  • Participate in cross-functional R&D projects to ensure project deliverables are met.

  • Co-develop manufacturing and test procedures meeting organization and product quality and efficiency goals.

  • Performing equipment set-up and preventive maintenance, developing procedures, and training team members.

  • Applying structured problem-solving and root-cause techniques to identify and resolve issues impacting performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.

  • Apply LEAN principles to improve personal and organizational efficiency.

  • Following policies and procedures to ensure a safe, positive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Electronics/optics technology with 10+ years of experience or equivalent, relevant military training. Equivalent technical training with 15 years relevant work experience is no associate degree completed.

  • Computer proficiency, especially with MS Office suite Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word is required.

  • Experience with electronics troubleshooting and surface mount re-work.

  • Proficient in the operation of common troubleshooting tools including Oscilloscopes, multimeters, laser power meters, flow meters, etc.

  • Proven ability to gather and analyze data, write reports, and create technical documents.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills and the ability to learn new technical information.

  • Sound customer orientation, and effective team based interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks & 3D printing technology and operation.

Location – This is an “in-office” position 100% of the time with Covid precautions being taken. The location of this position is Boulder, CO

Pay Range
$24.95-38.30 per hour depending upon experience


How We Determine What We Pay (compensation Philosophy)
Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.

For new hires, we to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
