Position Summary:

This position is within the Enterprise NERC Reliability Assurance (ENRA) Integration and Operations team at AEP. This position will serve as the key staff for managing program documents, program tools, and leading critical cross-business unit initiatives such as NERC mitigation plans, NERC audits, and other special projects.

This position will support the development and analysis of a wide range of scope of work types, including moderate to complex efforts using various project management methodologies. Must be self-motivated, an excellent communicator, and a team focused individual able to demonstrate competency in coordinating or managing initiatives.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a NERC Compliance tools and documentation program.

2. Lead and coordinate a variety of NERC compliance initiatives and projects across multiple business units, responsibilities include but not limited to the following:​​​

  • Manage expectations and communications with key stakeholders
  • Manage project risks, issues, and escalation process
  • Manage project schedule to ensure deliverables are met on time
     
3. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating cross-functional activities and supporting them with minimal supervision.

4. Support the development, testing, and utilization of various project management tools.

5. Participate in periodic Regional Entity (RE) and Regional Transmission Operator (RTO) audits to assess AEP compliance with the full range of NERC reliability standards; assist in performing internal audits as required.

  • Proactively manage end-to-end customer experience including leveraging tools & processes that improve efficiency & reliability.

  • Drive automation practices that improve measurable productivity and improve quality.

  • Provide corporate compliance leadership and accountability for NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Operations and Planning (O&P).

  • Lead and/or direct business continuity planning and disaster recovery for the ENRA organization as needed.

  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written, with all levels of the organization.


Minimum Requirements

NERC Compliance Specialist:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, communications, computer science, business, or related field of study; or Associate's degree in one of the aforementioned fields and two (2) years of experience in compliance, security, or a regulatory function.

Experience: In addition to any experience required above, three (3) years of experience in utility/energy industry, like business or in a regulatory function such as: NERC compliance, government relations, audit, project management, compliance, Generation, Transmission, or Distribution Utility Operations.



NERC Compliance Specialist Sr:

Education:  Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, communications, computer science, business, or related field of study; or Associate's degree in one of the aforementioned fields of study and two (2) years of experience in compliance, security, or a regulatory function.

Experience:  In addition to any experience required above, five (5) years of experience in utility/energy industry or like business or in a regulatory function, such as: NERC compliance, government relations, audit, project management, compliance, Generation, Transmission, or Distribution Utility Operations.


Additional Information:

  • Subject matter expert level knowledge in one or more areas of the NERC Reliability Standards
