About The Role

 The purpose of the cellar internship is to provide a learning experience in the field of winemaking by teaching our winemaking practices using theoretical and hands-on experience.  

Position starts: August through November, season dependent. 

Key Responsibilities

Compliance with all safety policies

Assisting in operating winery equipment (grape processing, presses, pumps, etc.)

Assisting in barrel work including management of barrel quality control, barrel fills, coopering aid for barrel fermentation, barrel fermentation management, etc.

Yeast inoculations, nutrient, and other grape must additions

Monitoring fermentations by checking brix and temperature, as well as visual and sensory evaluations; interpret data and report to winemaking

Monitor effectiveness of sanitation – visual and SOP audits

Tasting with winemakers to highlight and define fermentation decisions

Assisting lab team with sampling as needed

 About You

You have a degree in or are currently enrolled in Enology, Viticulture, or related scientific field, or Winemaking Certificate program; demonstrated commitment to the wine industry

Previous winery experience is desired, but not required

You can work as a dynamic and contributing team member in a fast-paced environment

You have excellent communication skills; can communicate effectively in English

You have strong organizational and problem-solving skill; ability to manage priorities and workflow

You must have a good driving record, dependable transportation, and be 21 years or older

Must work over-time as required

Ability to lift 40 pounds

Ability to build great relationships with team members

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The base pay range offered for this position is $17.75 to $23 per hour. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of the Interior of CA, specifically the Rutherford area. If the incumbent works out of another location, the wage rate may fall above or below this range. Treasury reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
