Job Duties
To understand and observe all of Carroll Concrete Co., Newport Sand & Gravel Co., Inc.’s policies and procedures including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Training Manual, SAFE Policy, Safety Manual and Drug Free Work Place Manual.
Summary
Mechanics reports to and works closely with the Fleet Manager also takes direction from the Lead Mechanic. Mechanics provide support to Lead Mechanics and perform duties such as changing oil and tires, replacing hoses and belts, inspecting brakes, and helping to diagnose vehicle issues. They are also required to hand tools to mechanics, to maintain material stocks.
• Repairs & Maintenance
1. Performs maintenance and repair on fleet vehicles.
2. Assists Lead Mechanic to complete necessary repairs.
3. Perform final operational test on repaired vehicle to ensure it is in proper working order.
4. Performs preventive maintenance on trucks such as fluid changes, lubrications, safety inspections, brake repairs, etc.
5. Assist with emergency roadside assistance as directed.
6. Discuss parts needs with Lead Mechanic on a daily basis (for timely and efficient ordering).
7. Help and assist all mechanics with daily repairs and help maintain shop flow.
• Other Duties
1. Discuss all shop issues and concerns with Fleet Manager daily and treat all concerns with respect and privacy.
2. Follow paper-flow procedures including documenting all repairs, parts used, issues and items needing ordering.
3. Report all accidents, injuries or near misses to supervisor immediately.
4. Work safely and efficiently.
5. Foster a team environment.
6. Other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
• Education: HD truck technical training
• Skills:
1. Must have good communication skills.
2. Knowledge of engines, controls, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, electrical systems, etc.
3. Good organizational skills.
4. Must be able to maintain composure through stressful situations and when under time constraints.
5. Own basic set of hand tools
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years HD truck mechanic experience
Restrictions:
1. Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 100 pounds as required throughout the workday.
2. Bending, squatting, climbing, standing for long periods of time.
3. Ability to grasp, discern color, be capable of using tools and equipment properly.
4. Must be able to maneuver in and out of vehicles safely.
5. Must be able to climb ladders (on vehicles) when necessary.
6. Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary.
Other Comments
1. CDL holders must pass DOT (Department of Transportation) physical as well as federally mandated alcohol and drug testing requirements. Must be insurable within the tolerable limits of the Company and its insurance company.
