Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Supply molders and other work areas with materials and assistance in completing tasks while maintaining work area organization and safety requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties:

  • Tasks include, but are not limited to:
    • Supply and hand file sand core.
    • Fill paste bottles.
    • Bandsaw or hand cut (with knife) and supply insulated riser sleeves.
    • Supply, sort and proposition iron chill blocks; manual material handling of core racks, flatbeds, wheelbarrow, hand truck, skid or pallet.
    • Forklift material handling of finished molds or loads on skids or pallets.
    • Mix sand zircon.
    • Mud cores and dip cores.
  • Infrequently needed to assist with pouring duties. This will include climbing 1-2 stairs with a full ladle.
  • Infrequently needed to assist with shakeout duties.
  • Place shop order tickets on stacks of castings, informing supervisor where they are located.
  • When necessary, mix sand for certain jobs based on work instructions.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
  • Transport castings to Finishing Area following handling procedures.
  • Study work instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
  • Complete daily inspections on tools and equipment, filling out forms when required to do so.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain area per established 6S standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisory or leadman personnel.

 

Shakeout Duties:

  • Shakeout castings from molds on all green sand molding lines following procedures in work instructions.
  • Push molds down the line to create room for the molders.
  • Dip and fill fiber ladle in appropriate furnace.
  • Bring full ladle to ladle stand to be skimmed.
  • Walk the full ladle to mold and pour aluminum into the mold.
  • Cure ladle when necessary.
  • After cooling period, check hardness of aluminum before shaking out.
  • When necessary, remove pouring cups after cooling, but before shakeout process.
  • Put screen over shakeout grate for jobs with small chills.
  • Dump the roller board, bottom pallet, and flask off the conveyor line and onto the grate once aluminum is cooled enough to remove casting from sand. (When necessary, use hoist and air hammer.)
  • Pick up the roller board and bottom pallet from grate area, and then stack on flatbed.
  • Pick up the flask and shake off any excess sand before stacking it on flatbed.
  • Bring flat boards and flask back to molders.
  • When necessary, set up roller, bottom pallet, and flask on adjacent conveyor to send back to molders.
  • Scrape paste off of flasks.
  • Remove casting from grate and stack evenly on pallet.
  • When pallet is full, grab an additional plywood divider and center it over castings to make an additional layer or remove full pallet stacks and place on level ground.
  • Remove chills from grate area and put into wheel barrow or storage bin.
  • Sweep or shovel sand into grate.
  • Pull full flatbed to molding area.
  • Remove empty flatbed from molding area and place it by shakeout grate.

 

Duties Specific to Helpers in South No-Bake

  • Assist the Melter with pouring Electric Ladles, both with a Forklift and a Hoist.
  • Hand pour molds.
  • Potential to be the back-up melter preferred.
  • Empty the pouring lines and clean up sand after moving bottom boards out.
  • Stack, sort, and distribute correct bottom boards to molders.
  • Empty sand barrel from dust collector in WPM every shift.
  • Forklift inspection every shift.
  • Clean up sand around Reclaimer Daily.
  • Empty cardboard and garbage cart every shift.
  • Place patterns on the Molding loop with the Forklift.
  • Remove patterns from the Molding loop with the Forklift.
  • Locate patterns in Pattern storage.
  • Properly return patterns, loose pieces, cups, sprues to the correct shelf in Pattern storage when job is completed.
  • File cores, paint cores, and drill cores when necessary.
  • Locate both Purchased and Eck produced cores, provide accurate counts when necessary.
  • Gather/fill chemicals for SNB Mixer.
  • Gather Acetone, Zip Slip, Refco 4260 THB, and Qset Paste, properly mix these chemicals, and log in the SNB Chem Use book for DNR.
  • Locate metal returns and provide for melter.
  • Return empty baskets form melt and knockout.
  • Move castings from knockout to blast staging area.
  • Gather chills, inserts, and risers to be sent out to Core suppliers (3-4 x per week).

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

At least one year of experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Highschool diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
