Summary:
- Individuals in the IAM Architect role provide overall direction, guidance, definition, and facilitation for the development of an architecture (current and future state) required to meet business strategies and goals.
- Responsibilities include advocacy and support of the enterprise’s IT strategies, identification, and analysis of enterprise business drivers to derive useful business context, analysis of the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement, and the development of strategies aligning IT to business.
- IAM Architects interface across all business areas, acting as visionaries to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects.
- They conceive strategies, solutions, build consensus, and sell/execute solutions.
- They are involved in all aspects of the project life cycle, from the initial kickoff through the requirements analysis, design, and implementation.
- Additional responsibilities may include the establishment of the overall architectural viewpoints and the establishment and oversight of organization standards and policies.
- Architects identify major system interfaces, business capabilities need, and existing architecture weaknesses and opportunities for systems.
- Serving in this role requires an individual to be a self-starter, work independently, and as a team member.
- They have to have strong communication skills in interfacing with business partners and the IT community.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- IAM Architects are also responsible for educating and guiding others on architectural standards, principles, methodology and trends.
- They must have significant business knowledge and have expertise within one or more areas of information, solution, and/or technical architecture in which they concentrate.
- IAM Architects are expected to mentor and coach less experienced staff and provide knowledge transfer across the organization.
- The IAM Architect provides guidance, road maps, principles, standards and best practices.
- They must be focused on enabling business and IT leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization.
- This role will work on multiple projects as a project leader or internal consultant and be viewed as an expert and provides knowledge and counsel to others.
- They will also work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge of one or more specialized architecture areas such as network, security, applications, data, systems and OT/IoT and Public Cloud.
What your background should look like
- IAM architect will help lead security vision and strategy for identity and perimeter security working with Enterprise Architects, Information Security Architects, and other architects to provide technical leadership to IGA, PAM, CIAM and Access Management programs.
- This position will be solutioning IAM systems, integrations, and processes, and identity behavioral analytics solutions which is normally out of scope for Enterprise, Information Security, and other architects.
- With more cloud based IAM solutions becoming mature and available, this position will also help with architecting our solutions for modern cloud technologies.
- In addition to the diverse technical skills that this position will be expected to bring in, the IAM architect will helping with liaising between Identity teams and stakeholders like executives, business units, Risk and Awareness teams, Information Technology, IT Controls, Audit, HR, Finance, and other teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, System Analysis, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Typically has a minimum of 7 – 10 years of progressive experience in multiple IT / Security areas with at least 5 years of experience architecting Identity and Access Management solutions
- Requires advanced to expert level knowledge and understanding of architecture, application design, system engineering and integration.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluating and architecting complex technical IAM solutions
- Strong experience in building and scaling an Identity program, and supporting large-scale IAM environments
- Requirement Analysis, Key Architecture decisions, API spec, Solution Arch & Data modelling for IAM platform
- Extensive Identity and Access Management experience in on-prem and multi-cloud environment
- Expertise in core Security concepts
- Experience developing patterns and repeatable processes
- Ability to connect security controls to improved business outcomes and influence business leaders.
- SME knowledge of SailPoint and Active Directory.
- 5 Plus years of experience architecting IAM Solutions in a Fortune 500 (Large) enterprise
- Proficient communication skills and experience in mentoring/leading teams
- Ability to translate complicated business requirements into multiple solution options and explain the pros/cons of various approaches
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to articulate complex topics in a business understandable manner at all levels in an enterprise
- Familiarity with IAM controls required for key compliance and regulatory activities
- Strong consultative skills: ability to interface effectively with technical and non-technical leaders.
- Strong facilitation skills and a clear ability to build positive relationships with business stakeholders at all levels, including executive managers and vendors.
- Strong ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems, driving solutions through to completion.
- Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines
- Project management and delivery experience
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- A security industry certification is preferred including but not limited to CISSP, CISA, SSCP, CISM, SANS GSEC, Cloud Security (CCSP, CCSK, AZ 500)
- Preferred Security architecture qualifications including SABSA or TOGAF
- Demonstrated sound understanding of at least 3 of the following security control frameworks such as HITRUST CSF, ISO 27001/27002, HIPAA/HITECH, PCI DSS, NIST
- CI/CD integration and Agile delivery knowledge & skills a plus.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to articulate complex topics in a business understandable manner at all levels in an enterprise
- Familiarity with IAM controls required for key compliance and regulatory activities
- Strong consultative skills: ability to interface effectively with technical and non-technical leaders.
- Strong facilitation skills and a clear ability to build positive relationships with business stakeholders at all levels, including executive managers and vendors.
- Strong ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems, driving solutions through to completion.
- Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines
- Project management and delivery experience
- Demonstrated capability to influence own team and beyond.
- Established a strong pattern of continuous education and personal development on information security topics
