The Manager of Internal Communications will be an experienced and creative communications professional with strong writing, editing, leadership, and presentation skills. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, you will work with various leaders across the Company to develop and execute an internal communication strategy with measurable results.
In this role, you will oversee, develop, and edit content for various communication tools, including the company Intranet, newsletters, and global town hall forums. A range of tactics are currently used to communicate key events, activities, priorities, and achievements, and the successful applicant will improve the effectiveness of those tools, working with global colleagues, while identifying and implementing new ones, including internal podcasts and mobile applications.
The location for this role is flexible, with Pittsburgh being a preferred location.
Key Activities
- Develop and implement communication strategies, including change management, under the leadership of the VP of Corporate Communications
- Create and execute a detailed internal communication program that includes key messaging pillars, implemented with consistency across a diverse and geographically separated team.
- Partner with operational and regional leaders to ensure must-know messaging is consistently aligned with business objectives and reaches all levels of the organization through various tactics, including internal videos, presentations, and corporate-wide town hall meetings.
- Oversee all internal editorial content on the company’s Intranet (MyAlcoa), working with teams to improve global connectiveness, including collaboration with information technology leaders.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to leaders on various challenges and initiatives, including driving employee alignment to the company’s purpose, vision, and strategies.
- Develop tactics to connect with operations personnel at remote locations or in the field/shop floor.
- Write/produce/edit content for global employees; coordinate with various subject matter experts to measure and track success through various methods, including surveys and interviews.
- Ensure consistency with external messages. Anticipate risks and design appropriate countermeasures.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing
- 7+ years’ experience in communications (corporate internal communication preferred) or related field such as journalism/newsroom management, public relations agency, etc.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Preferred experience in change management, problem-solving, decision-making and project management
- Experience in working with a diverse set of employees, from front-line, entry-level production employees to C-suite executives.
- Customer-focused skills, time management, strong attention to detail, deadline-oriented and flexibility in handing changing deadlines and expectations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
