Lead Development Geoscientist

The Development Geoscientist will integrate geological and geophysical data to generate detailed seismic interpretations, maps, and cross sections to identify and plan for development drilling opportunities. The Development Geoscientist will also provide support for drilling, completion, and workover execution programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for generating all geologic and geophysical inputs to the well planning process.
  • Work with land, regulatory, and drilling personnel to ensure adequate inventory for the drilling program. Identify, prioritize, and propose additional locations as need be.
  • Support the drilling operations by providing adequate planning documentation, identification of subsurface drilling hazards, and oversite of the geosteering contractors.
  • Work with the drilling team to assess risk and reduce cost in drilling operations.
  • Work with the broader subsurface team to identify needed data collection
  • Plan for and provide execution support for any sampling, coring, or logging operations.
  • Work with the broader subsurface team in the development of reservoir characterization products that will aid in the well planning process, improve execution, or enhance production.
  • Works independently to perform specific geoscience tasks, but often works with Geologists and Engineers in team-setting for greater-team alignment; multi-disciplinary teamwork and communication is essential.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, or related field of study, required.
  • Master’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, or related field of study, preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in petroleum exploration or development geoscience.
  • Proficient in seismic interpretation.
  • Proficient in standard interpretation software such as Kindgom or Paradigm.
  • Proficient in standard geosteering software such as StarSteer, SES, or Kindgom.
  • Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and satellite imagery for use in the well planning process.
  • Practical understanding of petroleum economics.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
