Role Summary

The Lead Engineer – Turbocharger Development will provide technical expertise and ownership for various aspects of the design, development, validation testing, application and reliability of turbochargers and turbocharger system components. This position is also responsible for the coordination of schedule and budget for these activities, as well as the communication of project status to cross-functional stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead turbocharger system and component development efforts by identifying design and validation requirements based on higher level system and customer requirements.

  • Direct the execution of design and validation plans to deliver fully validated products.

  • Oversee test planning, execution, and reporting for testing occurring at a variety of sites, potentially including external vendors, internal labs and on engines both on-site and in the field.

  • Conduct all tasks with an intent to deliver per defined project schedules and maintain ownership for communication related to performance versus schedule.

  • Provide input to senior engineers and management for effective strategic technical development.

  • Provide timely and accurate communication regarding component and system design within the various business organizations including engineering, manufacturing, quality and supply chain, as well as product management and executive leaders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related engineering field

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience related to the design, validation, application or field service of mechanical components or systems

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience related to typical design and validation processes such as FMEA and tollgate-style review

  • Willingness to travel (10%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience related to the design and validation of rotating machinery or components operating in high-temperature environments.

  • Experience with diesel engine performance as related to applications including locomotive, marine and/or stationary power generation.

  • Experience with a variety of engineering instrumentation, data acquisition and testing methods.

  • Experience with ANSYS or similar finite element software (either performing analyses or interpreting results)

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and the demands of engineering support for a production environment

  • Experience with reliability analysis (Weibull, etc.)
