Routine building maintenance common to the trades shall be included.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Maintenance supervisor will support Manufacturing, Distribution and/or Packing Operations.  Supervises the mechanic team and ensure all goals and procedures of the company are maintained. Responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of machinery and fixtures for the entire facility with a minimum amount of down-time. Will actively assist operations to support smooth production all times. Maintenance will be done in preventative and repair format as well as new equipment installations or modifications. Must have working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory compliance as well as Experience with Ammonia Systems.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

At this level the Maintenance Supervisor has broad knowledge of the scope of work required within operations. Understands team member strengths and weaknesses within the various trades that may include maintenance in the areas of hydraulics, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, fabrication, and welding.   Regularly applies advanced working knowledge of technical food manufacturing equipment and varied fields of specialization. Exercises general application of principles, theories, and concepts, and proposes a course of action.  Performs advance shop floor competencies.

 

Job Description:

  • Supervises Maintenance team members within their regular duties to include preventive maintenance routines, troubleshooting and repairs of equipment, documenting information, supply and parts needs, proper waste and disposal and ammonia checks.

·       Responsible with the Manager for the supervision, planning, organizing, and directing of maintenance activities and employee placement, training, and development.  Schedules staff based upon business needs. Works closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure that production goals are met, including efficiency, quality of work, hours, employee relations and safety.

·       Will interview, recommend hires and promotions, develop and train team members, evaluate performance, advocate, support and communicate team activities, coach, counsel, and discipline team members.

·       Eliminates daily barriers and monitors KPI's throughout the shift. Holds Team huddles and review KPI measures and corrective actions.

·       Applies mechanical expertise in determining work methods and procedures for producing quality product.

·       Works within established manufacturing procedures to achieve efficiency, quality, and optimum production objectives. Repairs mechanical equipment and system controls.

·       Receives work order/request, reviews to determine tool, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies requirements, and schedules its accomplishment.

·       Performs preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, exhaust fans, blowers, and electrical controls.

·       Observes mechanical devices in operation, listens to their sounds and troubleshoots equipment to locate causes of trouble.

·       Maintains and services a range of building equipment such as HVAC, lighting, water, and sewer, etc.

  • Assists in the installation of new plant equipment, trials, and the launch of new processes or equipment.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

·       Promotes and supports a Safety Culture and advocates for team to work in a safe manner. Ensure timely reporting of injuries or near-miss accidents in a timely manner. Takes immediate corrective actions when witnessing an unsafe practice.

  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as CARB, AQMD, CHP, DOT, OSHA, Storm Water District, Cal Fire, local code enforcement
  • Starts devices to test their performance and runs packaging and product for testing purposes.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Contains cost by conserving used equipment and supplies when able.
  • Trouble shoot issues and repair failures; removing, replacing, assembling, and installing parts and components involving sheet metal, frames, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, transport refrigeration, tires, wheels, bearings, coupling units, and painting.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Operates shop tools, equipment, and as many machines related to maintenance as skill level will permit.
  • Responsible for the completion of routine preventive maintenance duties with accurate documentation. Lubricates and cleans parts. Repairs or replaces defective parts. May install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Computer literacy to complete and update work orders, reports, invoices, and to research information.
  • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures. May complete routine inspections, research vendors or parts, and participate in audits as needed.
  • Routinely communicates with the Maintenance and Operations teams to keep everyone informed of an equipment down for repair.
  • May maintain transport trailer condition by reviewing shop orders and listening to operator complaints.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality within the scope of the job description.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

·       1 or more years leading or supervising a Maintenance team is preferred.

·       3+ years of related Maintenance Technician/ Mechanical repair work in a related industry with 1 or more years managing a team of employees

·       Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.

·       An Associates or higher degree, vocational education, apprenticeship program, certificates or training related to the trades, mechanics or engineering is preferred

  • 2+ years of experience with automated conveyor systems, motor controls, the repair of material handling equipment, electro/mechanical equipment and principles
  • Experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures
  • 1+ year of blueprint and electrical schematic reading

·       Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Ability to utilize Microsoft office to create correspondence, spreadsheets and reports

·       Experience working in a chilled food factory or related environment is preferred

·       Experience working with Ammonia, Waste Water, and conservation programs helpfully

·       Good knowledge and understanding of Safe work practices common to the trades

·       Bilingual (Spanish / English) helpful

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

·       Knowledge of applying common mechanical processes, conveyer systems, procedures, and repairs commonly to food manufacturing equipment

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical/electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of AC/DC powered forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Basic knowledge of all aspects of facility maintenance with the ability to perform minor repairs for multiple trades with competency and proficiency
  • Ability to work in a cold/ damp environment for extended periods
  • An understanding of lean manufacturing principles and key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Must be able to source parts for all necessary repairs
  • Must have strong interpersonal and employee relation skills
  • Ability to read, comprehend and speak professionally with team members
  • Must have basic mathematical skills

 

WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job work is primarily performed in a chilled environment or maintenance shop. Regularly required to stand, walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, talk or hear. Required to use hands and fingers finger, handle, lift, feel, push or pull objects. Exertsing up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently.  Often required to lift and carry 10 lbs force constantly to move objects. Compensation: $72,000-$78,000
