The Automation Engineer position will be focused on capacity improvement and manufacturing systems enhancement to meet the needs and expectations of our boss, The Customer.  Key deliverables are strategically integration automation, project planning, working side by side with local subsidiary team members to drive and influence project stakeholders to deliver world-class automation solutions and manufacturing advancements on time and on budget.  This position will execute multiple projects concurrently and prioritize your time and energy effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement multiple automation projects throughout the organization
  • Develop internal as well as external automation capabilities (training center, university or community college relationships, and key suppliers)
  • Develop technical standards for Automation - safety (co-worker safety, machine safety), machine design and sustainability (maintenance)
  • Work cross functionally with product engineering, industrial engineering, and IT to integrate new automation into existing production systems
  • Track project performance using KPIs
  • Document and measure customer satisfaction and lessons learned
  • Train co-workers 
  • Benchmark internally as well as externally to standardize solutions throughout the company
  • Develop relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Travel to different subsidiary locations will be required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION:

  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of automation and/or manufacturing (machining, foundry, assembly, and plastic injection molding)
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Project Management skills
  • Ability to prioritize projects based on KPIs
  • Firsthand experience designing, building, and/or commissioning industrial automation systems
  • High attention to detail with the ability to recognize the projects' key requirements
  • Track record of leading a team in successful projects or key deliverables of projects
  • Experience with forecasting budgets, schedules, and workloads
  • Drive to continuously improve, take on new responsibilities and raise the bar

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technologies, or similar
  • A minimum of two to four years of experience with robotics, automation, and PLC programming
  • Strong understanding of operations, lean manufacturing concepts, and automation equipment is required
  • Strong project management experience
  • Demonstrated history of developing relationships to gather input from key stakeholders and gaining their buy-in
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered
