Overview

The Category Marketing Director is responsible for the strategic development, performance management and reporting of integrated marketing programs that support our independent retail customers. These programs are created in partnership with vendors and business teams, including category management, to secure vendor funds to drive sales. The director plays a key role in fostering relationships with partners, evolving current marketing offerings, developing new assets that can be monetized, and leading a team.

Responsibilities
  • Actively collaborates with category management, procurement, sales leadership and vendor partners to understand business needs and independent retailer/customer opportunities, playing a marketing consultant role in Joint Business Planning sessions
  • Aligns on goals and marketing KPIs with partners, leading development of marketing strategies to achieve said goals
  • Responsible for developing and selling MDI marketing program offerings, to include eCommerce, Loyalty, Digital Coupons, Email and Social Media assets
  • Leads the end-to-end planning process to deliver integrated marketing programs, ensuring communication and visibility to digital marketing, advertising, finance/accounting and other critical teams
  • Maximize current digital marketing assets and lead development of common KPIs across levers
  • Evolve marketing programs and create new offerings to increase ROI and optimize vendor spend
  • Direct and manage external agencies and partners that support digital marketing platforms, in close partnership with IT
  • Management oversight of weekly promotional content creation and approvals, including process enhancements, coordinating with Marketing, Advertising, Merchandising & Operations to ensure effective execution
  • Own financial budgeting process, including billing; partner with category management and accounting to effectively manage the P&L to deliver profit for MDI
  • Identify and implement new processes and tools to drive growth
  • Support Marketing Senior Director and leadership on growth initiatives, partnering closely with the Advertising and Graphic Services Director and Growth Office
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years’ experience in marketing strategy creation, business development, research and data analytics, customer segmentation, or related field. Experience in shopper marketing or vendor relations a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, related degree program or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to engage senior leaders to deliver on strategic initiatives
  • Adept at analyzing disparate sources of data and research, to deliver on insights and go forward recommendations
  • Experience in P&L management including budget forecasting and managing billing
  • 5+ years leading teams including development of direct reports
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including writing, speaking, and active listening
  • Ability to engage senior partners and leadership, collaborating effectively while managing different perspectives
  • Strong time management skills and ability managing multiple initiatives
  • Demonstrated problem solving, data analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Leadership skills, including motivation, goal setting and development of business proposals to senior executives
  • Ability to make effective and efficient decisions when planning, scheduling and implementing marketing programs
  • Comfortable developing, implementing and using marketing tracking program software and campaign management tools
  • Able to effectively navigate grey space and ambiguous working environments
  • Expertise in Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
