Job Summary:

The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within Mechanical Engineering, is looking for a Materials Engineer to join our team in Andover, MA in the Materials Engineering Program Leads Section. A qualified candidate will have experience in evaluating and/or validating appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products within a design. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to support material selections during design, development, and manufacturing of hardware, and perform material evaluations in support of program design, development, and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. The role will involve evaluation of a variety of materials (such as adhesives, polymers, primers, and metals) and validation and verification that materials and processes used on product meet design and program requirements.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Evaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirements

  • Working closely with design personnel in the selection and approval of materials and finishes in new and updated designs

  • Supporting materials design and development and supporting product production activities

  • Developing and/or validating appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products

  • Providing evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes

  • Participate in analysis and documentation of alternate materials and participate in obsolescence investigations

  • Ensure labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by the Materials and Process Engineering Sections are negotiated, understood, and meet product/program commitments

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Science

  • Typically requires a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in materials science/engineering, manufacturing engineering, polymer science, or chemistry, or three (3) years of experience with a Master's Degree or hold a PhD Degree in the aforementioned discipline(s)

  • Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry

  • Experience working with design and development (material selections), manufacturing, and/or suppliers in materials or mechanical engineering related projects.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with engineering drawings

  • Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods

  • Experience working with polymeric materials, adhesives, metals, and/or corrosion mitigation techniques

  • Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigations

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills

  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
