ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise all office and clerical functions and personnel including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, production accounting, receptionist, and temporary/seasonal office staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting, transactions, reconciliations, and outside reporting to ensure that OBI Seafoods, Inc. procedures are being followed.
  • Maintain accurate records of all products produced and shipped daily.
  • Ensure that bi-weekly payroll is completed accurately and on a timely basis as required.
  • Relay information in a timely manner to the Corporate Office, Plant Manager, and other company locations as required.
  • Administer all communication systems (internet, PC network, UHF, VHF, telephones, and satellite radio.)
  • Assist in the coordination of fishermen's and tendermen's accounts and services.
  • Ensure that daily fish purchases and the daily preparation of fish tickets are reported accurately.
  • Reconcile fishermen’s receivables and end-of-season settlements.
  • Oversee purchasing, shipping & receiving, and inventory records and documentation.
  • Maintain good relationships with government agencies.
  • Enthusiastically support the goals and policies of OBI Seafoods, Inc. at the work location.
  • Prompt, reliable, and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager and/or requested by the corporation

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent organizational skills and positive, congenial, and motivational communication skills.
  • Numerical aptitude and experience with accounting principles and practices.
  • Able to maintain detailed, accurate, and legible records.
  • Computer skills including competence with Microsoft Excel, ten-key, and word processing is required.
  • Previous payroll experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of seafood industry preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to work independently requiring little supervision.
  • Must be able to live and work in Seward, Alaska.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: 

Candidate must be able to perform well consistently for 12 or more hours a day for 7 days a week through seasonal peak seasons.

Most of the work is done in an office setting however this office supports a fast-paced seafood processing plant which produces fresh, frozen, and canned products, as well as the associated by-products. It can be noisy, have varied ambient temperatures, a lot of foot traffic and have the smells associated with a seafood. 

Working Schedule: 

This position is year-round and will be based during processing months in Seward, AK (April-October) and non-processing months at discretion of plant manager (Nov-March). However, this role will work in Alaska, as needed, to train new office staff and provide support coverage during the production season. The work schedule in Seattle is a typical M-F, 8am-5pm work week. While working in Alaska, circumstances can necessitate longer hours, up to 16 hours per day and 7 days per week.
