Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating and executing prospecting, drilling, testing and mapping for

all domestic operations. Develops plans for all phases of the mining operation. Secures

the necessary permits for mining. Provides critical property and reserve data for corporate

reporting.

Essential Functions

  • Develops drilling plan. Coordinates raw material drilling and testing. Interprets research data and recommends further study or action.
  • Secures all necessary mining related permits at least five years in advance of planned mining. Some of the required permits are: Bureau of Land Management and various State surface mining permits; US Army Corps of Engineer wetland permits; Special Use Permits for Federal Land and assists with NPDES permits.
  • Employs knowledge, findings, and techniques to locate mineral deposits to determine their characteristics.
  • Design water basins according to NPDES standards as required for project compliance.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of existing EPD regulations and how they impact the mining function.
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge in the area of specialization to the completion of significant assignments, operating with considerable latitude for
  • unreviewed action or decisions.
  • Represents the organization in outside discussions and technical forums.
  • Prepares various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports such as: annual reclamation liability (ODCA), annual reserves update (ODCA), 40-year mine plans, Reserves and landholdings books, impoundment inspections, SWPP inspection. Report to BOD on position of land holdings, reserves, permitting and reclamation.
  • Certifies reserves annually for SEC filings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in Geology, Geological Sciences or related field.
  • 10-15 years of experience in Mining or Mineral Industry.
  • Professional Geologist certification strongly desired.
  • Strong computer knowledge; equivalent of 1-2 years previous PC application experience
  • in Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have 1-2 years experience using Autocad or equivalent mapping software.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to interface with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. frequently
  • Must be able to load and unload samples.
  • Must be able to walk and work on uneven, rocky or sloped terrain.
  • Good sight and hearing to avoid hazards.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of an 8 hour shift or project.
  • Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, walking and climbing.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time to Oil-Dri facilities.
