Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.

The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics. This includes Usage Based Lifing (UBL) for P&W engines and components and deploying state of the art development tools & methodologies.

The Data & Platforms software engineer will be responsible for developing cloud-based, big data processing applications and other engineering support tools that are cutting edge for the aerospace industry. As part of a large engineering organization, they will have a deep understanding of flight data and use cases for its analysis, and develop functional software to support a wide range of needs. They will work within a dynamic, Agile team and consistently interface with groups of internal and external customers to understand needs and translate requirements to functional software to support them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop distributed big data applications to support a wide variety of flight data analysis needs across a large engineering organization.
  • Develop well-designed front-end clients to interface with complex flight databases hosted in the cloud.
  • Take requirements from a large user base and translate them into functional software that supports those needs.
  • Engage in the development of flight data analytics designed to support fleets of military engine programs.
  • This role will give you exposure to a wide variety of engineering challenges. You will be involved in a critical role for Pratt & Whitney’s military engine programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • US Person Status required due to government contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience developing and optimizing cloud-based applications and services, preferably in AWS.
  • Experience developing front-end applications in React or similar.
  • Experience and comfort working in Agile teams and exposure to Agile software development methods.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to aerospace control and diagnostic systems.
  • Proficiency with Python, Databricks, version control software such as Git, modern optimization approaches, and Agile methods
