We currently have an opportunity available at our North Kingstown, Rhode Island headquarters for a Process Engineer ll.
Primary Function:
The Engineer’s primary responsibility is to maintain ownership of specific product platforms and manage the manufacturing specifications and quality control parameters for these products. This person will directly support the manufacturing process of these products and drive continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, and efficiency. This person will also interface directly with Sales, NPD (New Product Development), and outside customers to develop new products, maintain downstream quality compliance for existing products, and build strong customer relationships. Additionally, the Process/Product Engineer will support site wide expansion through the upgrade and installation of factory support equipment & sub-processes.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes and maintains purchased product specifications, product specific conditions, and quality standards for all owned products. Routinely communicates critical information to the production and quality departments to ensure compliance.
- Assesses and documents existing processes and quality control methods, and implements and evaluates changes designed to enhance productivity, safety, or product quality. Develops new processes and quality control methods as required, and works directly with the production and quality departments to implement.
- Creates and manages product and quality specifications for all owned products, and works closely with sales and marketing to ensure information is up to date and accurately reflects process capability.
- Provides in depth technical service and participates in face to face meetings with customers to build relationships, optimize downstream processing, and identify opportunities for new business. In the event of noncompliance, completes thorough root cause investigations and reports results and corrective actions to customers.
- Works directly with the NPD group to evaluate the feasibility of new products, manage the qualification trials, and carry out scale up operations.
- Utilizes recognized statistical process control techniques and other measurement tools to develop, maintain, and present reports to detail the effectiveness of existing processes or support the need for the introduction of new processes/procedures.
- Interfaces with all departments within the company to manage long term improvement projects that stem from process or quality deficiencies. Leads all necessary testing associated with improvement projects, and justifies capital investments.
- Willing to occasionally travel to customers in the US and possible occasional international travel for conferences or customer meetings.
Requirements:
We are seeking candidates with a B.S. (required) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and 2+years of practical work experience in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on project engineering and/or process engineering. Experience in plastics manufacturing is strongly preferred but not required. Additional requirements include excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, and the ability to think both critically and theoretically.
