The Quality Engineer will be an early member of our new Magnetics business unit headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.  This is an opportunity to be a part of building our team, our factory, our systems, and our culture as the Magnetics team helps to define the future of American manufacturing.  The successful candidate will be a highly-organized, detail-oriented, mentally-nimble professional with experience in the development, implementation, and sustaining of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in compliance with internal, customer, and certification body requirements.  This is a rare opportunity to have a central role in designing and implementing an entire QMS from the ground up, while putting your fingerprints on the future of American manufacturing.


MP Materials is committed to re-establishing a domestic American supply chain for rare earth magnets, and the new Magnetics facility will perform a mix of chemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and machining processes. The Quality Engineer will need to engage with a broad range of internal technical specialists and gain a working understanding of the processes involved to effectively lead the development, implementation, and sustaining of the new QMS.  The Quality Engineer will also need to be comfortable interacting with third parties to ensure that the QMS are integrated as needed with vendor and customer requirements, and are compliant with required third party certifications

Essential Duties:
  • Assist in the development of aspects of the new Quality Management Systems (QMS) for MP Materials’ new Magnetics business group.
  • Participate in the creation and execute the implementation of best practice Quality strategies, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance. 
  • Ensure the new QMS are compliant with all required third party certifications, likely including at least ISO 9001, TS 16959, and AS9100 certifications.
  • Lead regular internal audits, and manage all third party certification and auditing process.
  • Work closely with customer peers to ensure that MP Magnetics’ QMS are compliant with all customer requirements and integrated as needed with customer systems.
  • Work closely with vendor peers to ensure that their QMS are compliant with MP Magnetics’ requirements and integrated as needed with MP Magnetics’ QMS.
  • Ensure that all in-house systems and procedures are updated, revised and modified as needed to meet the needs of both customers and external certification bodies, while ensuring the simplicity and ease of execution that facilitates their consistent use.
  • Understand customer requirements and deadlines, and develop execution strategies and timelines to meet them.
  • Work with the MP Magnetics’ team to ensure buy-in and participation in the QMS from the factory floor.
  • Participate in FMEA and troubleshooting activities, and update quality documentation accordingly.  Communicate resulting changes to relevant stakeholders to ensure lessons learned from quality events are carried forward.
  • Develop and implement quality systems learning and training tools.


Basic Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in engineering discipline
  • 3+ years quality systems experience under relevant quality regimes
  • Experience managing both customer and surveillance audits
  • Strong sense of process flow and practical requirements
  • Good understanding of human factors
  • Previous work in industrial settings and hands-on approach to projects
  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions programs
  • Project management skills
Desired Qualities:
  • Experience in foundry/metal mill environments
  • Experience with Tier 1 automotive or aerospace supply
  • Progressive responsibility growth in career
  • Lean and Six Sigma certifications
