Join Takeda as a Research Scientist I / Research Scientist II, Oncology Cell Therapy Innovation where you will will play an important role in identifying new ways to optimize CAR-NK and CAR-γδT cell platforms through improving our understanding of the basic biology of NK and γδT cells. The focus will be in discovering new ways to improve potency, persistence and immune modulation through developing a solid understanding of activation, survival, costimulation, differentiation, and suppressive mechanisms affecting these cells. The scientist will help generate and run proof of concept experiments and collaborate with colleagues within and across departments.

This position is seeking an experienced and highly motivated immunologist, who has a solid background in immunology, especially immuno-oncology and innate cell biology, to join the Cell Therapy Experimental Immunology team. We are looking for someone who is highly dedicated and driven to advance new therapies to patients and who has a strong work ethic, drive and collaborative mindset.

How you will contribute:
  • Contribute to pre-clinical/discovery work by designing and executing experiments to further understand key pathways and mechanisms driving NK and γδ T cells biology.

  • Initiate investigations of new experimental approaches to specific problems using scientific theories, data from internal/external partners, and technical literature.

  • Develop novel in vitro/ex vivo assays to evaluate modulation of the TME.

  • Analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data to important partners, and play an active role in the subsequent scientific discussions leading to important decisions and program-ensuring next steps.

  • Propose novel projects based on internal/external results and published reports.

  • Contribute to scientific discussions and demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive technical or project reports and formal presentations/posters to full range of internal/external audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and follow laboratory practices in compliance.

  • Contribute to IND report and documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross function teams and contribute in matrix based project groups

  • Receive high level instructions on all work, determine methods on new assignments, work closely with manager, may manage junior staff

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 0-2+ years of relevant pharmaceutical industry/academic experience is required after graduation.

  • Hands-on experience with CAR-T, CAR-NK, CAR-γδT, and TCR-T cell therapies/immunotherapies is required, including cell culture, immune cell activation/expansion, cytotoxicity assays and scRNAseq.

  • The individual should have significant skills in in vitro and in vivo immune cell characterization and function assessment, such as multi-color flow immunophenotyping, multiplex cytokine measurements, cytotoxicity assays, and other molecular-based assays.

  • Experience with lentiviral transduction/CRISPR mediated KO/KI.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a team are required.

  • A track record of publications to demonstrate scientific expertise is preferred.
