GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under direction of the EHS Manager the Safety and Training Specialist will lead initiatives to create value for all employees in safety through monitoring and coordinating MeriCal Training, safety programs and resources for our three Anaheim, and Orange facilities.. This position will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of safe workplace practices in a growing organization. The Safety Training Specialist will facilitate and implement site-specific safety training along with identification of additional training needs to protect the interest of the employer/employee. This position will partner with employees and managers of all levels to improve overall safety and workplace practices. This person will be responsible for conducting safety work site observations and SOP documentation, participating in Incident Analysis, conducting safety training, managing OSHA Regulation processes, acting as liaison with all outside agencies to include customers and government agencies regarding safety or environmental compliance matters. Training all applicable personnel in SOP’s. 

Ongoing identification of training needs beneficial to protect the interests of the employer/employee.  The Safety and Training Specialist works with managers in all areas to improve overall safety workplace practices. Individual will partner closely with employees of all levels including management.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•    Conduct onsite workplace investigations as a result of safety and/or workers’ compensation incidents.

•    Identify recurrent, monthly, quarterly, and annual safety training needed for employees. 

•    Provide findings in written format and assist managers in facilitating disciplinary actions to employees for safety infractions.

•    Work closely with HR on workers’ compensation case handling and review of employee accommodations when needed.

•    Conduct monthly safety training to assure all employees are adhering to MeriCal’s IIPP, and complete required documentation.

•    Perform monthly safety inspections and report all safety issues to the respective managers.  Will assure all repairs, guarding, slip/trip hazards, lock out/tag outs are being completed, and other safety concerns are corrected immediately to avoid potential injuries.

•    Conduct ergonomic inspections to workstations to assure all employees performing continual tasks are rotating to avoid repetitive motion injuries. 

•    Recommend safety equipment to reduce workplace injuries.

•    Responsible for all new hires to assure safety orientation is performed. 

•    Conduct Job Hazard Analysis.

•    Maintain forklift certification records and keep up to date. 

•    Coordinate with HR on HEP B vaccination for all first responders at time of assignment.

•    Work with Human Resources and EHS Manager to implement safety procedures and policies according to Federal/State OSHA rules and regulations. 

•    Partner with quality and procurement for all incoming chemicals and ingredients. 

•    Review Safety Data Sheets for all incoming ingredients and chemicals, and ensure they are entered into system for accessibility. 

•    Maintain all Safety supplies (including but not limited to), PPE, First Aid Kits, AEDs with respective vendor accounts and third parties.

•    Facilitate HAZ/COM training to all employees at hire and as needed when new chemicals are introduced. 

•    Establish Safety Committees.

•    Assist in leading mandatory evacuation training to include drills, fire extinguisher training and first aid training.

•    Work with managers on their needs for training, cross training to ensure employees are trained on their respective equipment and processes. 

•    Maintain a list of safety/environmental improvement projects to drive injuries and incidents to zero including zero environmental non-compliance issues. 

•    Maintain all Safety supplies (including but not limited to), PPE, First Aid Kits, AEDs with respective vendor accounts and third parties.

•    Special jobs as needed


WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

•    Must have worked in a fast-paced working environment in a packaging or manufacturing environment in Human Resources, Safety/Security or Operations.

•    Must have good working knowledge of Federal and State OSHA along with other employment regulatory divisions as it pertains to the safety and welfare of employees.

•    Must possess good communication skills necessary to conduct/facilitate meetings, training content, and other safety and training as it relates to packaging and manufacturing requirements.

•    Must have strong communication skills to include delivery of information to employees of all levels in written, spoken, and visual format. 

•    Must be comfortable speaking within small and large group settings such as tail gate or Town Hall meetings.

•    Experience in new line start up a plus


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

•    BA or BS in Human Resources, Business, Management or Manufacturing and/or equivalent to 5 years work experience within Safety manufacturing 

•    Progressive Safety experience working within food, pharma, confectionary or neutraceut icals manufacturing environments required

•    Additional certifications in safety, workers’ compensation or Human Resources preferred
