Applies accepted design standard operating procedures to assigned projects. Ensures all assigned sections of projects meet the proposed budget, schedule, and technical objectives.

  1. Performs engineering calculations to design products or systems based on objectives provided by the Project Manager.
  2. Performs design analysis (bearing and gear calculations, stress analysis, etc.).
  3. Prepares and reviews concepts, design layouts, or schematics to fulfill defined engineering objectives.
  4. Recommends and selects components necessary to fulfill the design, including designing original components if not available commercially.
  5. Participates in brainstorming sessions.
  6. Reviews drawing packages to identify errors.
  7. Ensures design package is complete including assembly drawings, bills of material, etc.
  8. Assists supervisor in applying accepted design and manufacturing fundamentals to meet design objectives.
  9. Participates in coordination of the fabrication of the machine in the shop.
  10. Participates in the debug and testing of the end product.
  11. Functions as a draftsman when required.
  12. Participates in client reviews as appropriate
  13. Stays current concerning technological developments, design practices, and manufacturing processes.
  14. Utilizes mechanical design standard operating procedures in the preparation of print packages.
  15. Assists Lead Designer in directing/supervising Designers.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned by Project Manager or Engineering Manager
  17. May direct and train individuals from the same and other classifications.
  18. Effectively interact with managers, supervisors, and hourly team members across all departments.
  19. Must be willing to participate in specialized training as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  20. Travel on an as required basis.
  21. Additional duties as assigned.



  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in highly skilled areas of Mechanical Engineering
  3. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to perform complex analysis, plan and perform a wide variety of duties.
  5. Exceptional judgment with experience as a team leader.
  6. Abilities required to deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results, and make decisions carrying a great deal of responsibility.
  7. Proficiency in the development of detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools, and fixtures, according to engineering descriptions, sketches, and design proposals.
  8. Competency in technical mathematics, including algebraic, geometric, trigonometric, calculus, and statistical functions.
  9. Familiarity with machining and manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and mechanical functions.
  10. Skill using Windows-based personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office programs.


  1. Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Pro-E, CadKey, and AutoCAD preferred.
  2. Basic knowledge of fluid power and mechanical power transmission systems is preferred.
