As a Senior Scientist, you will work in the Americas Innovation and Technology Team to support the Polyurethane business to achieve its growth and profitability goals. The Senior Scientist will focus on polymer material research and development. The Sr. Scientist will lead the design, synthesis, characterization, and structure property relationship investigation of new and modified polymer materials (such as polyester polyols, polyether polyols, prepolymers, functional additives etc.) that can be used in varies applications mainly within the polyurethane industry.
In summary, as the Sr. Scientist, you will:
Safety is demonstrated through daily safe operation of laboratory equipment, wearing the required PPE for the job, adherence to all site EHS policies,
Prepare complex project plans to establish a sound basis for developing new polymer products. End results are the design of efficient and effective projects, involving, experimental approaches. The Senior Scientist rust be familiar with the resources required to start development activities in a new area of work. This may include the effective use of internet searches, technical databases, patent databases and published industrial and academic literature,
Conduct a significant level of technical work as defined in the project plan and document this work through the appropriate means including laboratory notebooks, interim reports, visit and trial reports, project meeting minutes, and monthly summaries, as well as fully documented technical reports at critical stages in the project cycle. Communicate to stakeholders and collaborators on the project’s status on an on-going basis,
Planning and implementing polymer development activities at the bench and pilot scales and working with manufacturing team to scale up new polymer products to production.
Support other functions in the development and commercialization stages, including sample preparation for evaluation, spec and data sheet generation, process research, new product introduction, and new product registration etc. activities,
Coordinate with customers and ask appropriate questions to clarify requirements, expectations, and critical performance parameters.to understand unmet needs and testing of prototype systems.
Required Qualifications
Education
PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science and Engineering.
Experiences
In-depth knowledge of polymer chemistry, polymer synthesis, polymer physics as well as fundamental organic chemistry knowledge are required.
Skills & Knowledge
Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs,
Demonstrated problem solving skills especially on the structure-property relationship establishment, lab/pilot scale synthesis skills, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and project management skills,
Knowledge of intellectual property, new product registration, regulatory etc. is a plus
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment,
Ability to lift and transport materials weighing ~50 lbs. over short distances is required.
Able to travel up to 10%.
