The Whole Life Engineering (WLE) Directorate provides effective and affordable design support and optimal sustainment solutions. Working closely with members of both design and user communities, our highly skilled practitioners use cutting edge technologies and tools to sustain and support RMD products. WLE’s diverse disciplines include Reliability Engineering, System Safety Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Sustainment Architecture, Integrated Logistics Support and Supportability / Sustainment Engineering. These disciplines work together with our programs and external partners to develop innovative and customer focused solutions in order to produce reliable, safe and sustainable products.
Job Summary:
We’re an employee-focused team collaborating across departments, including Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Supply Chain, Operations, Test & Integration and Production.
As a Sr. System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis of engineering hardware and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
- Working with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place
- Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
- Providing leadership in collaborations with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Key responsibilities will include:
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
- Managing a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:
- Monitoring program technical execution,
- Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
- Mentoring Jr. Engineers
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military
- standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically Requires:
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s Degree and 7+ years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and 3+ years’ relevant experience OR a PhD can account for the 5 years of experience as required for this role. In absence of a college degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
- Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering experience in Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device areas
- The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:

- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
- Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
