Summary:
The Packaging Department inspects and packages injectable products as they are received from Manufacturing. Both pre-inspection and inline inspection are utilized to ensure product integrity. The packaging lines are utilized to ensure schedule adherence; Acceptable Quality Levels (AQL) assure product quality before releasing to the customer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a clean, safe working environment to ensure associates' safety and product quality. Maintained through continued housekeeping and safety monitoring. Zero lost-time accidents.
- Ensure personnel functions according to SOP and CGMP through ongoing training and departmental meetings. Provide the highest quality product to the customer through constant communication with QA and ongoing training of Packaging Department inspectors. Reduction of rejects through communication with Manufacturing and Quality.
- Assure on-time delivery of the packaged product for release to the customer. Achieved through relationship/communication with raw material suppliers, Quality Assurance, and accurate scheduling of production and equipment. Attain 100% on-time product release through accurate scheduling and attending scheduling and release meetings.
- Monitor outputs and share results with production associates. Using CGMP maintains all department records. Audit SOP binders ensuring proper revisions.
- Review Packaging Batch Records with staff for accuracy. All associate training records are completed and forwarded to Quality Documentation. Equipment logbooks are being properly recorded.
- Achieve reduced audit observations and Incident Reports in the packaging department. Maintained budget while keeping department and associates supplied to perform effectively. Proper forecast for future improvements and support to the packaging department.
- Achieve spending results, that are not above forecast. Aggressively pursue projects reducing the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Through Engineering, and implement improvements while monitoring effects on departmental cost. Achieve cross-training which allows lines to run continuously.
- Continue training and complete matrix, allowing supervision to schedule lines with limited to zero downtime. Acquire and maintain management/associate relationships. Increase/maintain department morale while increasing productivity. Hire, complete performance evaluations, and terminate as needed to achieve business needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises employees in inspection & packaging. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant related work in the pharmaceutical industry experience, plus one (1) year in a team leadership role. Work experience in a sterile aseptic injectable processing environment is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clearly. Ability to speak effectively.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic math concepts
Computer Skills:
Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, as this individual will perform work within these systems on a routine basis.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to organize time to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement technical writing and instructions.
- Effective interpersonal relation skills, while maintaining the adaptability to achieve company goals. Verbally expresses ideas and facts in a clear, logical, concise, and accepted grammatical style.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
