Systems Architect - Navy Connected Battlespace (Hybrid)

Associate Director, Systems Engineering

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

The Mission Systems Advanced Technology and Capabilities (ATC) organization is seeking an Associate Director - Systems Engineer for an Architect role. This role will support our JADC2 Experimentation and Demonstration efforts lead by the Connected Battlespace and Emerging Capabilities (CBEC) organization. The successful candidate will have a passion and drive for growing our Connected Battlespace solutions through early customer engagement and field experimentation.

This role will serve as the Engineering Architect for our Navy focused engagements and experimentation. The Architect will work closely with portfolios across the Mission Systems (MiS) business, Collins SBUs, and RTX at large. They will provide technical leadership in defining future demonstration and experimentation activities in tight coordination with our Value Stream Management and Business Development peers as well as customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the design authority and define the technical architecture for experimentation with the Navy
• Interface directly with customer sponsors, develop deep customer relationships, and assist business development and VSL in capturing customer interest in technologies
• Develop data capture and validation plans
• Work with leaders across Mission Systems and beyond, as well as within own team, to support alignment and buy-in
• Work rapidly to prototype and demonstrate new technologies, sometimes developing new processes along the way
• Ensure the development and management of technical risks; develop and execute mitigation plans
• Lead a team of matrixed technical SMEs to achieve experimentation outcomes
• Identify opportunities to advance the technology portfolio resulting in enhanced products to meet our customers future needs
• Ensure the protection of Collins Aerospace intellectual property; safeguard customer and supplier/partner intellectual property
• Assist in mentoring and growing talent, including discipline health across the technology organization
• Significant travel will be required (~1/3 time), for customer engagement, integration, and major demonstration events. Some travel can span multiple weeks including multiple weeks on-ship or at austere locations.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Active and transferable Top Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
• Experience with both systems and software architecture and development
• Strong communication, coordination, and collaboration skills
• Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex software systems and hardware solutions
• Experience in providing input for technical proposal writing
• Experience leading planning, bidding, and pursuit activities
• Able to operate with limited information, take prudent risks, and set clear direction
• Ability to execute internal and external customer presentations to influence direction
• Experience communicating with executive leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with current SCI or SCI eligibility
• Experience integrating with Navy ships and/or aircraft for installation
• Demonstrated proficiency in CJADC2 concepts
• Understanding of OODA loop and sense, make sense and act decision cycles
• Understanding of military command and control methods and information systems
• Understanding of multi-level security systems, communications, and datalinks
• Experience in prototype development, demonstration/experimentation, and IR&D environments
• Strong organizational awareness across MiS, Collins, and RTX
