Pratt & Whitney Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engines. EDSI is responsible for overall engine system level definition and management. This includes engine performance, operability, system level modeling and simulation, validation and verification of performance and operability requirements, and functional engine and air vehicle systems integration. EDSI also defines engine architecture, system and structural design as well as manages all requirements across the program.

This particular job posting is for a Systems Engineer responsible for Fielded Engine Support on the Geared Turbofan PW1100G-JM engine program - the most advanced propulsion system for the Airbus A320NEO/A321NEO commercial jetliner. A willingness to stretch into Systems Analysis and Integration roles is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform fielded engine event support and system analysis data review using field data sources
  • Actively monitor PW1100G-JM fielded engine performance with a focus on: performance trending, engine deterioration modeling, and trend shift diagnosis via engine component analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance for PW1100G airline customers
  • Support data analytics initiatives utilizing field data sources and big data tools
  • Lead and support engineering Root Cause investigations (e.g. part failure) through use of event data, fleet usage data and aero-thermal models.
  • Ensure safe field operation of reliable P&W engines through analysis of engine operability, performance, and product usage.
  • Generate and communicate technical presentations and reviews to key program stakeholders and customers
  • Represent engine design and system integration discipline on various cross-functional teams interfacing with various systems and component groups, as well as with airframe customers.
  • Mentor other engineers to facilitate personal, professional, and technical growth.
  • Growth opportunities include additional multi-disciplinary leadership roles in systems engineering, integration, data analytics, aircraft performance, control definition, advanced modeling techniques, and test disciplines for commercial engine platforms

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • US Citizenship required due to government contracts
  • Work schedule: Hybrid, working alternately in-office and remotely.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Practical knowledge of engine hardware and system level design
  • Experience in Python and Data Analytics / Data Visualization tools
  • Practical knowledge of engine performance and operability concepts
  • Experience in managing internal and external customers.
