Purpose of Position:

This position will service Del Monte customers and internal operations by providing technical expertise related to the post-harvest handling, ripening, distributing, warehousing, and merchandising of Del Monte products.  In this role, will also conduct evaluations/reports of Quality Assurance (QA), Research & Development (R&D), Production, and Packaging trials.  The technical Services Coordinator will visit customers Distribution Centers, warehouses, repack facilities, ripening facilities to inspect commodities and product (from receiving to shipping) to prevent rejections or complaints.  The position requires strong knowledge of produce, repacking produce, ripening and fresh-cut processes to quickly troubleshoot issues in the field.


Accountabilities:

  • Train and advise North American customer base and company personnel regarding proper receiving, ripening, warehousing, shipping, retailing, and merchandising practices for all products.       
  • Coordinate advisory meetings with customers and company personnel, focusing on improving distribution center profitability, quality, and operational efficiency.  Follow each meeting with a written report detailing recommendations.  
  • Conduct training and informational seminars for internal company divisions and Del Monte Fresh Produce customers.   
  • Conduct field level evaluations of QA, R&D, Production, and Packaging trials.   Provide detailed written reports and analysis of each trial.    
  • Implement Technical Service training programs at the customer level.            
  • Assist with QA functions as needed at North American Ports or Distribution Centers.             

 

 Minimum Skills Required:

  • 4 year College Degree (Food Science, Agriculture or similar) from an accredited institution.   
  • Proficiency with most MS Office software (i.e. Excel, Word and PowerPoint).            
  • Trained on produce post-harvest storage and processing (receiving, storage, repack, ripening, fresh cut, protein, loading orders, trailer inspection, shipping, etc.) 
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with DM produce and provide solutions to DM customers.
  • Knowledge of Global auditing systems (GFSI, Primus).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.  
  • Strong math and science skills.          
  • Ability to lift 40lb boxes of produce overhead.             
  • Approximately 75% travel required.


Preferred:

  • Bi-lingual: Spanish and English.
  • Produce, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control related work experience.
  • Knowledge of production, transportation, distribution, and post harvest handling of fruits and vegetables.
  • Experience in tropical product production and QA at the farm or port level.
  • Knowledge of statistics and technical writing.
