General Description: Responsible for preparing, maintaining, modifying, and repairing tools and fixtures required for production and engineering support. Support and maintain mold repair documentation logs. Provides recommendations and options to improve tool performance. Communicates issues and challenges with tools to appropriate parties.
Qualifications:
- Certification from a trade school in mold making, Associates Technical degree a plus.
- Five years as journeyman moldmaker, experience in mold repair and in a molding environment.
- Three years in a supervisory position required.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervises, trains, and develops tool room personnel.
- Evaluates and prioritizes requests for tooling services.
- Prepares molds for production by performing cleaning, repair, or changeover activities.
- Assigns tool room resources as needed to meet production commitments and ensure service levels are maintained.
- Evaluates problems reported by Production and Quality departments. Develop and implement solutions to correct problems. Obtain quotes from mold shops and prepares quotes for customer repair or purchase of components.
- Work with Process Engineer on requirements for repair.
- Tool review; review of metrology data for OOS conditions and development into grooming plans.
- Ensures proper maintenance, management and documentation logs of tools. Establishes and maintains spare component inventory.
- Works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Production Scheduling to ensure customer service commitments are met. Ensures all job costs and hours are recorded and billed, if appropriate.
- Work with outside mold makers to ensure they receive proper direction and instruction and to ensure product received meets requirements. Manage the mold shops deliverables & expectations.Review the tool design closely with Engineering and the release of new tools into production.
- Lead technical reviews with the customer.
- Capability to review and improve tool designs.
- SolidWorks CAD software abilities, Excel, PPT, Word and MS Project.
- Some knowledge in FDA, QSR, and ISO 13485 medical device regulations and standards.
- Provide support to engineering for existing tool modifications.
- Expresses ideas, recommendations and solutions clearly, logically and concisely in both written and verbal communications. Ability to interface effectively with other people throughout various levels of the organization as well as outside individuals (clients, vendors, contractors, etc.)
- Travel to various customer sites, tool fabrication/repair shops and occasionally, Viant production facilities as needed.
- Supervision of tooling bench inspection upon receipt at Viant facility and instruction to tool room employees for correct preparation to get the molds ready for validation as needed.
- Other related projects and tasks as assigned.
- Quality/Metrology Support: Provide assistance in how to measure dimensions. Support measurement fixture and EOAT design & fabrication
- Prepare, track, and communicate project plans that specify project phases, tasks, task interdependencies, durations, resource assignments, and costs. Coordinate tasks and schedules.
