Role Overview
RTX currently has an exciting IT position available that supports the RTX mission of making the world a safer place. We are seeking a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Subject Matter Expert (SME) that will be working in a highly collaborative, multi-platform and multi–disciplined environment. The VDI SME will design and implement solutions for an enterprise-wide virtual desktop infrastructure spanning multiple datacenters and supporting critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you can develop, implement, and maintain secure, cost-efficient virtual desktop infrastructure across various classified programs. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex issues distributing classified work across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Horizon View VDI SME, design and develop VDI environment using VMware products.
- Apply security hardening according to DISA STIG and JSIG requirements
- Perform monitoring, capacity planning, and forecasting of the VDI environment to recommend and implement enhancements that improve the experience, performance, and reliability of the VDI environment.
- Administer and support the VMware and VDI environment. Including vCenter Server, ESXi, and Horizon.
- Ensure compliance with security and performance requirements (NISPOM, RMF 800-53)
- Optimize, update, and patch the VDI environment, server workloads, and desktop pools.
- Design and implement new virtual desktop deployments, and their supporting server workloads.
- Design and implement new NVIDIA GRID server for virtual desktop deployments.
- Use configuration management apps to deploy and configure user profile settings and zero client endpoints.
- Identify performance baselines and resolve issues using monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Use application virtualization to layer in applications and services to virtual desktops.
- Maintain the governance and compliance state of the VDI environment.
- Work with the vendors on HW, SW, and licensing support requests.
- Update and maintain the VDI documentation.
Basic Qualifications
- VDI platforms, and how they interact with the supporting IT infrastructure and systems.
- Administering and supporting VMware Horizon View, vCenter Server, and ESXi.
- Administering and supporting NVIDIA GRID Server.
- Building and maintaining VDI desktop pools running Windows and Linux.
- Using VDI user profile and desktop session management applications.
- Using VDI monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Deployment and support of printers utilized by an VDI environment.
- Supporting application virtualization utilizing DEM.
- Using PowerShell and/or Ansible for automation and scripting.
- Support of virtual Microsoft Windows servers and desktops
- Support and management of VCSA and vSphere environments
- Linux based systems such as RedHat Enterprise Linux 7, and 8
- Windows Server administration, Active Directory, group policy, DNS, and DHCP configuration and management.
- Familiar with Windows 10/11 imaging and administration.
- Strong understanding of fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts
- Familiarity with the National Industrial Security Program ("NISP") and the National Institute of Standards and Time ("NIST") Risk Management Framework ("RMF")
- Hands-on experience with security hardening according to DISA STIG and JSIG requirements
- Information Assurance (IA) Certification: DoDI 8570 IAT II cert
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required.

- Industry-recognized certifications relevant to a MSCE or MCP

Education
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

Work Authorization: This position requires a United States Top Secret security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US citizens are eligible for a US security clearance.
