Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Operations the Vice President, Engineering will be responsible for improving and upgrading the Engineering function within the BW Integrated Systems sites and functions. This person will serve as the senior most Engineering leader across BW Integrated Systems and lead the Engineering function for the division and lead the engineering from customer product requirements through final production as well as new product conception through production. This individual will drive engineering metrics to ensure consistency and quality in finished product, analyzing the current state and leading a change management effort to identify improvements. The role will define and implement a global engineering team structure in a way that creates technical career paths while leveraging competencies across all levels of the engineering organization.
The Vice President, Engineering will oversee all aspects of the division’s engineering, equipment design to ensure a consistency in look and feel of our equipment solutions, maximize collective volume of materials and components across the supply chain. This individual must also build camaraderie and consistency amongst the engineering function and assist with recruiting, training, and coaching employees, on engineering and process improvement principles, and facilitating change management across the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess the current state of engineering teams Mechanical, Electrical, Research and Development- within BW Integrated Systems multisite network of sites and functions and plan, develop, organize, implement, and execute a holistic BWIS System for Engineering
- Build, develop, recruit, and manages the engineering team capable of carrying out initiatives
- Define optimal engineering organization structure to support growth and development while promoting global flexibility of the group
- Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence while continuously evaluating the quality and caliber of our engineering organization
- Manage team members in project planning, priority setting, and assure operational objectives are obtained
- Submit thoughtful investment analysis (aligned with step-change) for any required technology or tools that expedite our progress
- Define and implement design principles for equipment that is designed as a configurable product as well as custom project-based designs.
- Define engineering career progression plans and structure for team
- Serve as the BWIS representative on the BW Product Safety Committee
- Create and drive tools and metrics with support from Operational leadership that inform and improve our investment and performance including analysis around shared capacity, reduced engineering content and efficient team utilization (OCOS).
- Establish consistency in key elements of our designs: HMI, Branding, Safety, Paint, Guarding
- Drive an environment of continuous improvement and provide organizational support and structure to lead sustainable changes within the engineering function
- Engage with multi-functional partners and business leaders including those in operations, supply chain, sales, marketing, and the executive leadership team
- Spearhead the development, communication, and implementation of effective engineering and process improvement tools, processes, and behaviors across the Division.
- Review and upgrade operating policies, procedures, and standards that will ensure a common look and feel of the equipment across BWIS
- Implement global standards for drawing format, naming conventions, part numbering and BOM structures
- Drive sustained adherence for creation and control of new part number approvals and reviews
- Lead, motivate, and develop the functional team (whether direct or indirect reporting) on an ongoing basis, and provide direct feedback, counsel, and coaching to drive practices and processes and overall company performance
- Provide leadership and management expertise for the measurement and effectiveness within the Engineering function, utilizing data and metrics to instill Engineering accountability
- Facilitate alignment with Product Development to ensure smooth handoff of new products into our engineering team
- Determine primary and secondary sites for key product lines and assess Engineering talent and development need to achieve multi-site manufacturing
- Provide support and assist with the change management with introduction of Products
- Align with Packaging Platform to maximize sharing outside of BWIS
- Benchmark other BW and outside organizations in our space to maximize our success
Education/Experience:
- 10+ years in a global company leading Engineering or Operations, with experience building and leading Engineering programs; experience in capital equipment, or complex systems manufacturing is desired
- A proven-track record of driving Engineering in identifying areas or improvement across an organization, implementing corrective actions and best practices when necessary
- Demonstrated effective management (both direct and through influence) across multiple locations and work groups.
- A technical degree in engineering or similar field is desired; the ideal candidate will have an advanced technical degree or MBA
