Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership when interfacing with external customers, sales, manufacturing and quality. Will visit customer sites when required, to ensure that the design and needs of external customers are met on a timely and effective basis.
  • Definition of technical product performance criteria for specific applications in hydrogen service (function and design/dimensions)
  • Generates and approves design proposals.
  • Recommend material based on application criteria as well. Will also recommend new material targets based on application needs
  • Ensures model accuracy, design documentation and/or functional testing requirements are captured, and then used for evaluated for acceptability for the new products/applications.
  • Assures product quality by defining testing/qualification/validation methods aligned with application requirements; Clearly understands and communicates testing methods for finished- product and system capabilities Produces external facing technical reports as needed
  • Must develop a fundamental awareness of customer and industry technical requirements in the hydrogen economy, and basic business acumen regarding the business impact of technical decisions in a developing market space.

B.S. in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or related discipline required, MS or PhD preferred. BS with significant, demonstrable direct experience will be considered.

Skills and Experience:

  • 10 years of experience in plastics product development. Experience with both design and definition and development of functional application testing to ensure successful product performance
  • Direct experience in design and development of applications related to hydrogen service is a plus
  • Experience in functional product design, modelling/simulation and empirical testing and validation of product performance (mechanical, thermal, chemical, wear, fatigue, creep)
  • Experience using 3D CAD software; direct experience in use of FEA to model systems preferred (successful demonstration of use of simulation tools, not necessarily running the software in and of itself)
  • Experience in tribology is preferred as well
  • Track record of success, as evidenced by successful commercial applications moving from product concept to commercial parts. Pedigree in product development, inventor on patents, published papers or some combination of the above will demonstrate capabilities
  • Strong technical acumen, comfort interfacing with highly technical customers, including technical presentations, establishment of technical product requirements in dialogue with customers, defining, conducting, and interpreting product testing needed for success.

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting and any applicable collective bargaining agreements. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
